Recently, I have been relying on mobile internet. It appears that GiffGaff is apparently abysmal on this front.*

As such looking to jump ship, and try another network. Does anyone have any recommendations which are broadly the same price/data offerings.

Was paying £10 a month for 1GB 3G, 4G included but not decent coverage so never got it, 500 mins and unlimited texts.

Cheers 🙂

*it might be great for others but I am getting 0.5mb intermittent connection.

I would heartily reccomend three; been with them for ages. Good coverage, 4g included which is quicker than the broadband most of the time, and decent roaming too. YMMV of course

use this http://consumers.ofcom.org.uk/phone/mobile-phones/4G/mobile-coverage-checker/

to check who provides the best signal at the postcodes you use most.

If gifffgaff isn't any good for you then 02 wont' be either. (same network).

I find EE pretty good for coverage but 4G is still patchy outside urban centres

vodafone also have some pretty competitive pay monthly deals at the moment.

three seem a decent bunch

I've just dumped them but that's just due to a weird local coldspot round our village (for everyone but volderfone until recently when O2 started to work too) and their threeintouch via wifi thing wasn't brilliant, though it did work

Check how ee works in your area if it's good then I'd go virgin. £12 gets you plenty of calls and texts and 2g data. No 4g but that's unlikely to be an issue given what you're currently on. Roaming is also rubbish but may or may not be an issue?

If you want to roam 3 is brilliant £15 gets you similar to virgin but you can use it in lots of places, patchy on coverage then so make sure it suits. Gets you 4g if that's a benefit.

Stick to 30day plans and as long as you're phone is unlocked you can change if it's not so good.

I get unlimited internet on 3 for £12.90. I love the roaming.

The cheapest unlimited data Sim I can see on Three is £20pm. What have I missed?

That they've changed all their tariffs and everyone on cheap pay monthly deals may be in for a nasty shock. Mine had been £15/month and got shunted up to £30 a few months ago. Just changed it to make it more sensible.

Interesting seeing recommendations for good coverage with Three - the reason I wouldn't go with them is that the coverage here is awful - I get no signal at all in my house. I get the impression they're similarly poor in lots of rural areas. On the contrary the EE coverage is fine - I'm with Virgin on the EE network, currently paying £6 a month for 1GB (and 250 minutes and unlimited texts). I'm afraid that's not a tariff you'll see published as it appears only to be obtainable on threat of cancellation, but their published deals aren't that bad value, and you can always threaten to cancel after a year (I guess I' been with them for ~18 months) to get a better one.

Thanks for all the replies. Three look worth a go. According to their coverage map I should get 4g inside and out, so might pick up a PAYG sim first and test that before committing. Shame it works out over £50 more a year for rolling month vs year. But guess that's always the way.

If you're a BT customer their plans work out cheaper than Giff Gaff as you get a fiver off the standard cost. Use the EE network and will shortly merge completely so coverage should have decent.

On Friday I ordered an ID network sim only 1 month contract. Its run by Carphone warehouse and runs on three's network.

For £10 I'm getting 500 mins, 5000 texts and 4gb of data. I got this deal through uswitch.

Anyone have any experience of iD?

I've been with Virgin mobile for a while now. £10 per month, 1gb data, 1200 minutes and unlimited text. I think £15 gets unlimited everything.

30 day rolling contract. Used EE masts so pretty good signal.

I moved from GiffGaff to The People's Operator, no complaints so far and it's been well over a year. Good deals on there.

Just watch out with Virgin, the tariffs get more expensive through time, I discovered my £8 tariff had slowly gone up to £10.60 recently. Not the end of the world but still a pita

Also it seems they do not offer 4G.

One thing I have found out in my own experience, and while trying to choose a new network, is that a lot of the MVNOs seem to perform worse than their parent network. For example, I am ditching GiffGaff so had ruled out O2, but tonight I tested a mate's O2 sim in my phone and it was blazing fast. Looks like a lot of these MVNO like GiffGaff are cheaper for a reason.

Anyway, despite not having as good 4G coverage overall as EE, I am going to take a punt on Three. As the locations I most use mobile internet seem to be fine when tested with a PAYG sim I put a fiver on over the weekend.

Edit: TPO look interesting, but concerned they will not perform as well as EE, as I outlined above. Anyway, it seems they offer free £5 when you order a sim, so guess i can test for myself!
