Im a student,I run my own small buisness and I need to use a Webcam regularly to skype my parents who are often abroad.
I have £400 to spend on a new laptop/Notebook.
I dont have a need for a Disk drive really and Would prefer a lightweight Lap top that has a decent battery life as often I need to work from my car or in lecture theatres.
Want to give me a hand,Is it worth spending more? my girlfriend has a macbook air and that is pretty snazzy, does anything compare?
thanks
bruce

can that run windows? Not a pc person really other than avid user!.. I need to run windows
I need to run windows
...because....???
No, chromebooks are basically a chrome browser sitting on a small linux build.

will leave you change for some new bike bits.
For writing my dissertation amongst other things...
Got some nice kit recently at the Dell Outlet site, Sony Vaio have a similar outlet site.
Chromebooks use to google Docs office suite so WP/Spreadsheets & Presentations are covered.
After that look up Dell clearance
Still does not answer why you need windows.
I need to be able to run microsoft word etc* ...
Im guessing you're reading an arts subject 😉
check out google docs.
Technically you need to be able to do word processing. In many ways I prefer Google docs to ms office. Most of the new features in office do very little for normal productivity.
By using open source or Google you will save money and become more adaptable for the day you enter work and find the software isn't what your used to.
He is in work; he runs his own small business.
I suppose it depends which/what aspects of Windows you need to use,if its just for Word processing,Spreadsheets and the like then a Chromebook may be suitable as you would be able to use Googledocs for all the above and the documents would then be stored in your Googledrive(Cloud/virtual storage)
The benefit to this is you dont need Office on your laptop plus the cost req to buy it,you can log into Googledrive from any PC probably including your girlfriends Macbook if required.
Regards the Chromebook you would be getting a nice lightweight laptop for less £.
Back to Windows for a sec if you require it for programs that will not run on Chrome then thats a different ballgame, one I have been looking at recently is this:-
http://www.tesco.com/direct/acer-aspire-v5-431-14-inch-intel-pentium-dual-core-8gb-ram-500gb-windows-8-silver-laptop/771-4924.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=771-4924
Seeme to fit your criteria, lightweight(not dissimilar to a Macbook in size and weight but loads cheaper,8GB of ram,No CD/DVD drive.
That one at tesco looks very good,However the points you make about the chromebook make sense. The issue being my need to upload ms word files for my Uni assignments, thanks for the input.
