You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
1) decent battery life I.e. Will go three or more days between charging
2) makes/receives phone calls
3) can send/receive SMS messages
4) can access internet, and
5) is better than a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, which at almost 2 years into its life is, quite frankly, rubbish
1 & 4 are unfortunately contradicting.
If you want a smart phone, you won't get a battery life for 3+ days.
Nokia 6310i, lasts on standby for a fortnight
I still have 6310i with spare battery in the cupboard, for longer expeditions.
And my sons m4 aqua has an uber long battery mode, that does 5 days with almost no use...
M4? Motorola?
I'm looking at the moment too. The Motorola Moto X Play gets decent reviews. The Moto G 3rd Gen does as well, but you need to go for the 16gb version, of which there are none about, it would seem.

Closest you're going to get is a classic Blackberry. Mine goes almost a week without charging but whilst it can "access the internet" the web browser is very poor.
Failing that, you're looking either at something with removable batteries so you can fit a spare, or an external battery pack.
xperia z3 will do all that. z5 out now, and it's marginally thicker. hopefully this will stop the back on them cracking. ask me how i know. 🙁
You can replace the back
Get the phone you fancy and one of these for extended battery life when away from a socket...
I had a Moto X 2nd gen which I managed to smash the screen on. Really nice phone, would've had another like a shot - managed to get it when they were £195. After looking into the cost of a replacement screen (£165 ffs) I bought a Moto G 3rd Gen 16gb from the Motorola website. About 2 weeks delivery and it's not quite as nice as the Moto X but it does have a couple of advantages - waterproof, can take an SD card and you can get a shell / flip case for it (genuine Motorola about £12 from Amazon - small and neat) which hopefully will stop the smashed screen shenanigans in the future.
Probably get 2 days battery out of it.
I have a Sony Z1 compact, light-avg use will comfortably get about 2 days on a single charge. This was a huge step up from my previous Samsung S2 which struggled to get a day, even with minimal use!
I'd agree with Muffin-Man's suggestion though. Smartphones generally have bobbins battery life, so just get the one you like within your budget and get a portable charger to go with it. If you're on EE they'll even give you one for free!
Chrissy if you still want the Moto X doing, £65 plus pnp
I've got a Moto G 16GB.
It's very good.
Ordered of the Motorola site, £180 with a discount code.
You even get to pick the colours.
Had the 2nd gen 8 GB for 2 weeks, until it ended up in the washing up bowl - speakers on the old one were better, but the new one is much faster and has a decent camera.
2 day battery life with regular use.

wysiwyg - £65 to sort the screen out, really?? It's only the glass that's smashed, still all works OK and I did absolutely love it, was devastated when it broke. I'd love to pass it on to the Mrs for her birthday. Drop me a mail to Chrissyboy 1969 at googlemail dot com and I'll stick it in the post to you.
Cheers,
Chris.
when the glass goes you need to replace the LCD with it (I've had to do my nexus4 recently), 65 isn't a bad price, usually about 70 or 80 on the high st
I love my S4 Mini, had it 2 years now, just replaced the battery after 2 years and its fine. Last a good day or so without charging and that includes using the net, twitter FB browsing etc.
Sony Xperia Z of whichever flavour your pocket (financially and physically) will stretch to. It's got a great camera, they haven't buggered about with android too much, it's waterproof and £4 on ebay will get you a front and rear tempered glass screen protectors and barely noticeable case. And it does all those other things you asked, it has a good size battery to begin with a selection of battery modes. You can also set the wifi, etc to switch off if you are moving into a geographical area it knows doesn't have wifi you connect to.
I used to have an Xperia Neo V which ticked all of the above boxes. Looking like another Sony or a Motorola then
Thanks everybody 🙂
The new moto x play has the big battery 3600 mah mine does 2 easy 3 at push. There is another Chinese one coming out, see Clove, with a 4000+ battery.
