You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
So after trying to cut our huuuuge laurel hedge using a combination of ladders (on a slope) and balancing on top of a 6ft fence, I have realised that I need the right tool for the job.
So - petrol or electric? Mains or battery-powered?
I am thinking a battery one for convenience (they seem to have a 75 minute running time which should be ample). I do like the idea of a petrol one for power but I guess they will be pretty heavy too?
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
(Budget of £200 tops)
Lidl do they now and again for about £60.
Depending on how much you have to do, it's worth investing in a good one. I have over 200m of hedges at home, and been using a stihl one for years, without any problems. Viking do battery ones now. However, be warned, that are not the easiest things to use, and the tops of my hedges resemble a dogs hind leg, as trying to keep it level, especially after holding it for some time, is quite difficult.
Why not hire this? Perfect for the job you want doing and if only cutting once a year or less then cheap. They get a bit heavy but you can use above your head all day without to much pain. They will cut branches up to around 3 to 4cm.Any thicker than that you will need a saw.

Or call in a tree guy if things look sketchy.
Buy a Bosch li ion battery model and invest in a ladder/platform set up. I cut my 8ft hedge with this combo
Timely thread...
I cut my 9ft laurel yesterday with regular hedge cutters a set of ladders a couple of decking boards and a silent prayer to the gods.
A couple of years ago I fell off and battered my tail bone. 😯
Edit
Don't know if it is any use but I like the lady in the pictures.
Gotta be petrol for extra BraaaaaaaPage and testicular growth.
Withersea - a platform won't work as the ground slopes too much on one side and the gap is too narrow on the other - I had considered it as one would come in useful for other tasks but I think I need a long reach trimmer for this one.
