I've got a small Gerber lock knife but want something a bit bigger and stronger. What other brands should I consider?

look up Heinnie Hayes and have a browse. It entirely depends on your requirements though.

I have a Falknivven fixed blade for stalking and game shooting and it is amazing (albeit expensive), but recently bought an Ontario RAT1 to take with me to AFG. AUS8 steel, sharp, cheap. I'm happy with it.

Be aware that anything with a locking blade is likely to be frowned on by the police if you carry it in public, so it may be better to look for either a rescue tool (5.11 do one) or a stronger multitool for biking/camping.

Haha Phil, Mick Dundee reminds me of my Mrs cousin in New Zealand. He's hunted boar with just a knife.

Them's some dangerous boar. The unarmed ones are bad enough.

Cheers Willard, I'm sure I'll find something on the Heinnie Hayes site. I want a Hattori just because it sounds cool but they aren't cheap.

Why do you want a big strong knife?

Little folding stanley knife and a box of blades

Not as cool as a big knife but it is probably what you actually need, does everything apart from slicing bread.

Moonraker knives are good, you actually need to pick up the phone to order though 😯

I assume because he's a murderer.

That WOULD seem to follow. So this stuff is "cool", is it?

Spyderco are very good. However please take note of uk law. Any knife must have a blade of 3" or less and not lock in place.

Do you really need a knife? Surely you'll have one on your multi tool 🙄

Why do you want a big strong knife?

Because he wants to chop you up into teeny weeny bits for being a nosey ****.

So, everyone with a knife is a murderer then?

However please take note of uk law. Any knife must have a blade of 3" or less and not lock in place.

Does that include my scalpel sharp fish filleting knife that I take fishing with me then?

Spyderco Squeak is UK legal, and, frankly, all the knife you need on a day-to-day basis.
I have a Rolson utility knife like that Stanley knife, that I use at work for cutting zip ties, cardboard, pallet wrapping and strapping, and which has been put to use hacking back overhanging brambles as well. Brilliant knife, broken countless blades, but carrying one regularly could be dubious legally, if you should get stopped. I never have, and certain of my knives, like my Spyderco Tasman Salt, are very illegal, but so damned good for trail clearance I take the risk.

Squeak
The beauty of the Squeak is that it's pretty much impossible to close the blade on your fingers, unlike a Swiss Army knife; your finger fits into the choil behind the blade, effectively making its own 'lock'.
Really excellent little knife, can't recommend it highly enough.
