We're clearing out my parents' place and it's almost ready to go on the market, but we haven't a clue about solicitors etc... Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations? House is in Currie, edge of Edinburgh. (if it makes any difference it's probably worth about £300000- good house, good garden, good area, pretty terrible interior so probably a bit of a fixer-upper)

We've been recommended Warners, I have literally no starting point so any help would be much appreciated!

I used Beveridge & Kellas on Leith walk for the buying my first house, and subsequent selling of it for our current one. Very impressed, seemed to be on top of everything, everything went smoothly and no complaints at all.

When worked out for all costs involved, worked out only a smidge more expensive than Purple Bricks for significantly better service.

Along he vein of "recommend what you use", we went with

https://www.mcewanfraserlegal.co.uk/solicitors/Edinburgh

both times we've moved. First time we used the Edinburgh office and it was very slick and professional. 2nd time we went with the Dalkeith office because it was closer (and a tiny bit cheaper) and they still got the job done but wasn't quite as slick - but that amounted to an extra appointment which we left wondering "wtf was that for?". Fine tho.

It's likely to be snapped up given market conditions and the fact that it has got loads going for it. Hope that's not jinxed the whole sale for you!
I'd go with a solicitor that offers the best or close to the best fees so long as they have at least a half decent reputation.
One to avoid is Braemore - widely regarded as the worst agent/solicitor in Edinburgh.

I used Neilsons who have a few branches around Edinburgh. Would use them again.

Just schedule a few to come to the house one after the other and then pick the one who annoys you the least, that is what we did.

In the past when buying from my grand uncle then subsequently selling the house in Currie to my sister we used Gillespie McAndrew in Athol crescent. Seemed a fine transaction at the time c. 2005

When moving recently we used McDougall McQueen in Dalkeith / penicuik. Again fine.
