Off to Hydra for a friends wedding in September so going to spend a couple of nights in Athens with the girlfriend and have a look around! There just seem to be solo many hotels and apparently some not so nice areas! Anyone recommend an area/ hotel to stay in that's good for sight seeing?
Cheers
Electra Palace, Plaka.
Thanks for the suggestion, looks amazing but sadly might be a little out of our price range, would like to keep it to £120 a night or under if possible!
Plaka Hotel is a little cheaper I think. I've not stayed personally but friends have (I heard good things). I do recommend you try to stay in Plaka, it's a great base for sightseeing. There are a few hotels, google may tell you which suits your needs (and wallet) best.
Stayed here before going island hopping, nice.
we found an open cinema in a market place just up the road, drinking beer in the evening while watching a random movie. Good stuff!

Thrankd for the advice, will have a look at Plaka for sure and that art house hotel
Stayed in the Plaka Hotel a couple of weeks back. It's fairly plain and functional inside, think Holiday Inn Express kind on decor. But the location and the bonus of the roof terrace makes it a great choice. It's a short walk to Monastiraki metro so really handy if you need to do the airport > city > Piraeus commute. It's bang in the middle of Plaka so restaurants and bars everywhere. Recommended.
That roof terrace looks like a stunning view! Cheers for your help all!
But serving the priciest beer in Athens! They've gotta make a living mind.
Haha, cheers for the ehads up on that one! Although I guess you are paying for the view as much as the beer! Is Athens expensive to eat/ drink out in compared to the UK?
I found it pretty reasonable. Exchange rate helped. Islands cheaper still. Found 500ml beer for 2 Euros a pop....happy days! Athens was very quiet. Quite a lot of the bar and restaurant staff asked the same thing; why aren't people coming to Greece? Pretty tough times for them sadly, but as good a time to visit as there'll ever be I reckon.
