My wife has announced that she’d quite like to book a self catering cottage for next years summer break instead of camping. Reckons shed quite like a change from the tent.

Initially she was thinking Scotland - west coast area, but I’ve suggested Wales which seems keen on. We’d like to be near the coast. I’ve been looking at Cardigan Bay Area but tbh I don’t know where the best coastal areas are so I’m turning to STW for advice.

Where’s best to look at? If you can recommend a place I’m all ears.

Requirements: 2 adults, 2 kids (age 6 & 8) and 2 dogs so must be pet friendly. Near-ish to the coast, a garden would be good.

Pembrokeshire national park is nice. Lots of options there, usually not too pricey (pre COVID). Lots of good walking and a bit trip out to the islands for wildlife watching. We've had a couple weekends in broad haven in cottages

I’ve used this company before. It’s North Wales based but stayed at some lovely places, albeit smaller than you need, so can’t recommend a specific property.

St David’s is my fave spot, close to some great beaches and plenty of places to eat/drink in town. Also close to lots of scenic spots - Blue Lagoon, Solva, boat trips around Ramsay etc. Coasteering, surfing, and some great road biking too (especially up to Preselis) not so much for the mtb. Further up Cardigan Bay try Newport and New Quay

Friend of mine stayed here, said they had a great time.
I also know the couple that run Tanylan cottages it overlooks the Tywi estuary, around 4 miles from Carmarthen and 5 miles to the nearest beach.

Lots of holiday cotttages on The Parrog.  For example Camelot

We've enjoyed lots of family holidays in Newport, over many years.

We caravanned in Harlech last April & loved the whole area. I did say that North Wales could be our new West coast of Scotland.
(Until we went back to Scotland.)
The Welsh coast is awesome though, sorry I can’t help with cottage details. 🤭

I'm sure there's someone on this very forum who owns, and lets, a cottage in Aberdovey. I've got the details at home, but am away for a couple of days (sorry, realise that's only semi-helpful...) Hopefully he'll pop up and chip in shortly

stayed at this cottage 3 times and loved it - beautiful mwnt beach 5 mins drive away and a further 10+ sandy beaches within 20/30 mins drive - lovely cottage and big garden - ticks all boxes I reckon

Here's the place I referred to a couple of days ago, in Aberdovey.
Haven't tried it, so I can't vouch for the facilities (and there's no garden to speak of, by the look of things) but it should fit on most counts, so it's possibly one for consideration.
Kynaston Cottage, Aberdovey

@thelawman thanks very much for that. That looks like a good option.
The only issue would be that it states one Pet is welcome - we have two (well behaved, older) labradors.
If the owner does pop up I’d be interested in knowing if they’re a bit flexible on that!
Thanks again

Have a look at Graig Wen, little bit further north than Aberdyfi. There are 4 self catering lets, two have enclosed gardens. We go frequently and take our two spanners. The owners are lovely too.

Anywhere around Aberdovey and Tywyn is dead handy for the Mach Loop, if anyone likes planes. 🙂
