I fancy getting one, and there's a few around. I could go by the amazon reviews, there's couple that get top marks like 'The Who 50!' and 'The ultimate collection'. both have the occasional whiny review about sound quality, but I'm not sure if that's just for the audiophiles.
Thought I'd get the STW view as well....
Cheers

the one with the book in that the convicted sex offender was writing is my favourite well when i am not listening to glitter and watching Saville re runs.
righto.
I just listened to Townshend's recent interview with Matt Everitt on 6 Music, it's an interesting one, and it does cover that incident.
I like the ultimate collection, although it is missing one of my favourite Who songs "I'm One"
I would personally go with one pf the older compilations, where the compilers generally ignore the (surprisingly extensive and almost entirely awful) post Moon period. Also, pick up / listen to Quadrophenia. It's got loads of great songs that never seem to make it on to compilations.
For short and sweet, The Kids are Alright.
Film is very enjoyable as well.
pinball wizard - the collection covers a lot of the main highlights right from the early stuff. only 20 tracks, but a good starting point and cheap
I think my very first LP I bought was "The Story of The Who" - can't recall what was on it now, though..
I'd suggest the 4 disc cd box set called 30 years of maximum R & B.
The Kids are Alright.
We should have seen it coming
What was his excuse OP?
Who's better who's best.
Good al round compilation.
I know it's not actually a compilation, but....
Live at Leeds - it's got loads of hits and it's a glorious live album; to hear a very accomplished band doing their best stuff and also not being afraid to improvise on it too
The Kids are Alright.

err, there was nothing insinuated in my post. It's good compilation and an excellent film.
Sorry vinney, i'm just kidding.
Also asking the OP how Townsend 'covered that incident' cos i'm not going to spend the time listening to the interview but i'd like to know.
Live at Leeds
+1
Ooh Back in the old days it was "Meaty, Beaty Big and Bouncy". I don't know what today's equivalent would be.
hi,
thanks for replies, helpful. here's the link to the R6 show, it's about 45 mins in where talks about it.

gist of it was that he was researching online child 'stuff', for a charity called nasac (?). also that he was abused as a kid himself. he was all cleared by the police.
Am not getting into a debate, here, just replying to the few of those who asked.
cheers, happy listening!

Just buy Who's Next, you need the complete album.
