I'm hoping to take my lad for an overnight camp trip and all we have at the moment is a two man pop up festival tent. It just looks too thin and flimsy for me, and I saw a nice vango 3 man tent today that got me thinking about what would be nice, but it was the wrong side of £125, for what we need.
But it had a nice little porch and dual skin so undoubtedly would be more comfortable, vented etc.

Any good deals to be had, around?

Vango Banshee 300? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vango-TEJBANSHEC05165-Banshee-300/dp/B00GRQMI4C

Wife and I use a Halo 200 which is very similar in many ways but in a geodesic dome format. Especially like having two entrances (one each) for any solo excursions without climbing over each other. We also get our own little porch each. Has been near-faultless* for many summers, autumns and the occasional winter weekend.

* After 5+ years of v. heavy use the flysheet has finally succumbed to UV damage.

For longer car camping we use a Quechua Arpenaz 4 which has also been excellent, if not so stable in strong winds, but has always held itself - just billows alarmingly.

Neither the Vango or the Quechua have been a problem in torrential rains. Of the two I love the Vango on account of its exceptional stability and thoughtful touches ie plenty of inner storage, good tensioning, alloy poles, twin exits offering ability to always cook out of the wind, adjustable venting and that Vango low-key green outer but orangey-inner sunshiney cosiness that cheered many a drab day unlike white inners ( appreciate YMMV on the colour but it's the little things that clinch it for me)

Forgot to say - also like their ability to pitch outer first (or even with inner attached) so when it's peeing down you can crawl straight into a dry tent. Both our tents have this feature and are valued higher because of it - although it's not so rare a feature these days as in times past - might be worth checking whatever tent you choose.

I notice Decathlon are selling an XL 2-person dome w/ porch for a song right now, I've no experience with this but reviews seem positive - maybe have a look if you've got a store nearby?: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/arpenaz-xl-2-tent-2-man-blue-id_8293540.html

I wonder if it was the Vango Beta 350 you were looking at? If so I found one on the right side of £120

(Terrible review on that page, but on other pages 5 stars soooo... 🙄 )

Cheers, that decathlon tent looks a bargain, and probably spot on for what we need.

Car camping...

Are you gonna be spending a fair amount of time around the tent, or is it just somewhere to sleep?

What about if it rains loads? Do you want a small tent particularly, or would you prefer to have somewhere you could maybe stretch out a bit and sit out a rain storm?

The first tent the Wife & I got was a fairly small Blacks tent but it had a decent sized porch area and I am not sure that I would want anything much smaller unless I really had to.

Although more expensive, something like these would give you more room in case you needed to sit around in the porch playing cards with a cuppa waiting for the weather to clear up....

I've one of these it's ideal for weekends as you can sit in the porch if required on a low chair
