Anniversary in a few weeks and treating ourselves to a nights stay at Blytheswood square for the night, we may end up eating there but what other options are there in Glasgow for top nosh?

We normally just go to Wagamamas or pizza express, but fancy something a bit nicerer.

Jamies itialian any good? Anything else in merchant city or west end? Eaten at lots of places over the years but forgotten about most of them & done Adshton lane to death.

I've only done coffees and snacks there so far but the new Antonio Carluccio place in West Nile st looks interesting - always looks busy too

2 Fat Ladies, just round the corner from the Blytheswood. Last time in Jamies food and service was p@ss poor. Cafe Rogano is good, just on the exchange square (bit with the lights)

Thinking about it, couple from work just been to the Blytheswood said the food was amazing

If you want to head west the classics are the stravaigan Glasgow's only legit gastro pub, Ubiquitous Chip the classic west end restaurant.

Gambas fish place is near your hotel, I like that. I went to Chardonne d'Or and thought it was falling short of real fine dining apart from the price. They can pick a good wine though.

not a fan of Jamies italian..
they seem to be very average food bumped up to expensive prices trading on his name..

we ate at Cafe Gandolfi when we stopped off in Glasgow last year on the way back from Skye, after recommendations on here.. and the food was excellent!

From personal experience the following are all good -

two fat ladies at the buttery is good
two fat ladies at 88 Dumbarton Road, great atmosphere and good fish
ubuiquitous chip is consistently good
The Bothy, just off Byres Road
Rogano's
Blythswood Hotel
Cafe Gondolfi

If I had to choose one from the above for my wedding anniversary I'd book a table for two in the courtyard at the ubiquitious chip. In fact that's excatly what we did last year and it was fabulous. Tell them it's for your anniversary and you might get a free glass of fizz like we did too.

Never been really impressed by Brian Maule, it's not bad though

I concur with jamies, well overrated.

Cafe Cossachock in the merchant city.

The missus has an old school italian stepfather originally from Rome. He's lived in Glasgow since the late 70's and has eaten at a lot of the Italian restaurants throughout Glasgow. The one he rates as closest to home cooked "like mama used to make it" food, is La Lanterna at the lower end of Hope Street.

I've been a few times and always found it spot on....it's also cheaper than your Merchant City equivalents.

Mr gozarch and I ate in two fat ladies (88 Dumbarton Road) in January and it was superb. Great service and brilliant food. Mmmmm, scallops and black pudding .....

Been a while since I lived in Glasgow, but we always liked the City Merchant (in the Merchant City, of course!). Great seafood. No idea if it's still there / still good.

Used to be my favourite restaurant but it's gone downhill drastically. I believe it changed owners about 3 years ago and it got noticeably poorer after that
