I'm moving to Glasgow and will get fibre installed in the house - the choice in the area is bewildering, so who is good and who should I avoid like the plague?
Will be about 200m from the cabinet, I believe.
If you just want internet and not TV content etc then use Zen, they don't piss about.
Ultimately though, unless you can have cable, 90% of your service comes via OpenReach anyway.
Virgin? Only one I know of where you don't need to pay for a phone line too.
Ah Zen - think I might have used them a long time ago for ADSL. No need for TV or packages or bundles. Just want a big huge pipe into the house.
Virgin frightens me in terms of horror stories of poor service - can anybody vouch for them and their customer service?

This will be my mantra until my dying day. I may possibly still be on hold to them then as well.
Trying to make the same choice myself - you're right about the bewildering options.
Are you getting phone / line rental as well. What about TV?
What speeds do you need and how much usage?
I'm with Zen for ADSL, have been for a decade and always been happy with them so I might just stay with them, even though they are not the cheapest.

Never had to call them, as it's only gone down once in the 10 years I've been with them. (That was just a couple of weeks ago, strangely enough).
glancing round ourselves, looks like plusnet have the best current deal on (that I liked anyways)
Yeah, BT - the ones who put a £50 call out charge on my bill when I reported a lightning strike... nice. (I didn't pay it, but I suspect some did!)
Andrew & Arnold come highly recommended by the programming geeks I know for reliability and privacy (though TM may put an end to that). It's not cheap but I've not suffered slow speeds like I used to and only three blackouts in as many years. The one time I've had to call them they were very helpful.

We use Virgin Business in work because they offered us 150meg down 20 up for not much money which was cheaper than our lease line and faster, it was okay, speedtest consistently reported that exact speed and a sub 10ms ping, but it felt slower - go figure.
We've upgraded to 300 now, which again speedtest confirm as being 301-305 but browsers hang all the time and our VOIP system falls over couple of times a week.
Virgin did say they were working in our area, but frankly it's not been great.

Plus Net are often the cheapest but my mum has them for ADSL and their customer service was crap.
+1 for Zen, very good service although a bit pricey

It's worth noting, that whilst they run as seperate busineses, PlusNet is a BT brand with all that goes with that.
Plusnet are good as far as ISPs go.
I'm with Zen at the mo for ADSL, brilliant service. The upgrade to Zen Fibre is taking place next Tuesday. I don't expect any issues.

Used them since 56k days, and the worst customer service experience I've had is when the BT guy came to connect us a day early. Worth noting that ground work will have to be done by BT, but after that you're golden ime
BT does have its perks, masses of cashback (£115.50 currently at TCB, which covers most of the promotional internet price for the 12-month minimum contract), plus the free wi-fi hotspot roaming.
Plusnet for value, zen if you're happy paying more for customer service.
I've been very happy with BT. Coming up to 2 years and no problems.

living in a virgin cabled area, see 3 virgin cabinets with the fronts, hanging off, cables and internal gubbins exposed ,and quite a few virgin van drivers driving like nutters.
ohband numerous letters every week offering over priced call and broadband packages that really dont intrest me due to high cost and freebies not being FREE

You live in the same street as me?! There's a phone number on the inside of the cabinet, I tried calling it. Number unobtainable!
My Virgin is rubbish. Up and down like a sailors trousers and no faster than copper wire. And don't get me started on the rubbish TV offerings.

I thought, as a medical professional, you could tell the difference between a virgin and, er, not.
Plus Net for me for the last 6 years or so, nothing but good things to say about them, any issues have been quickly sorted too. BT contractor that fitted the fibre was brand new as well, shocking though that may seem. Got it maxed out after he replaced a bit of the cabinet that was a bit dodgy.
Virgin customer here... Pay for 150M, get 150M during the day, throttled to about 50 in the evenings, heavy user with terabytes of traffic each month never any threat of limits.
Had a lightning strike take out the router recently on a Thursday PM, fixed Sat AM.
Just though I'd balance all the VM negativity.
Virgin Media has been flawless for us. Previously were with BT Fibre and that was terrible.
