Love my Fjallraven jackets, The Greenland Winter is awesome when it’s very cold, but my wife’s just bought me a new Bellstaff jacket which will be getting worn this winter.

Barbour waxed cotton - equally at home in town and country.

Buffalo mountain shirt.

In black,

Not waterproof, not smart, not suitable to wear to work in an office, and not optimal for most weekend outings.

It is warm though.

Fjallraven are nice if you have the budget.

What do you mean by 'weekend outings'? Wandering up hills or just for general use around town? If the latter, Arc'teryx has a whole load of eye-wateringly expensive 'lifestyle' coats that just about make sense if you can find them on Sport Pursuit.

Carhartt do some nice coats that are well made and should fit the bill....without being too technical.

Charity shop for smarter work coat.

Whatever decent brand of jacket fits, that's on sale in local outdoor emporium.

Oddly enough, most people who actually live in the country who wear them neither own one or do the other. That’s the province of Townies who like the idea of the countryside, but hate the smells, the lack of convenient Waitrose stores, the mud, and the locals who only like them for the money they spend at the weekend when they adjourn to the cottage that’s empty for the rest of the week.

Castle Combe is a good example of the latter.

I've been searching for exactly the same in recent months. Those Didriksons seem to fit the bill, thanks.

My reduced car use/increased use of rail travel has highlighted that when walking to the station a just below waist length outdoor coat is bleeding useless for keeping your suit trousers dry. Wet shins is one thing, soaked from thighs down is another.

On the hunt for a not too sweaty, long, smart waterproof coat. Barbour stockman looks functionally the job but I don't holiday in Dubai and can't stand the Evoque and while I am not worried about being judged as if those things are true I am worried it may be a bit too warm.

I think I may be on a moon on a stick hunt again.

If you don't mind spending a few bob how about a Woolrich Mountain Parka. It'll last for decades. Fantastic coats. The mountain parka is like the Arctic parka but also fully waterproof.

Arc'teryx Therme or Camosun parkas are excellent too.

i know i was banging on about Community Clothing last time but Ive got my eye on one of these (they do them in Camel aswell):

https://communityclothing.co.uk/collections/menswear/products/mensraincoat-navy?variant=6978726002742

probably not hugely warm, but definitely smart enough for the office and should be fine around town

I tihnk I asked a similar question looking for an alternative to

https://arcteryx.com/es/en/shop/mens/magnus-coat

but in the end I bought it anyway and it fits the bill perfectly. Should be finished paying for it by spring. 2022.

I have a Barbour waxed coat, live in the countryside, dont have an Evoque, don't shoot game, takes a hammering and I can wear when walking the dog in the fields and when I go to the office.  I always thought their puffa jacket things were the choice of the Essex set, not the waxed!

Point of order. A small* child** collected it

* 5'10"

** OK, he's 17 in a fortnight

I recently got a jacket from decathlon that would fit your requirements.

https://www.decathlon.co.uk/rainwarm-900-parka-3-in-1-mens-waterproof-jacket-black-id_8317482.html

I had purchased it as a warm winter coat but was surprised how smart it was. The material isn't typical waterproof stuff and has a nice weave to it making it look less hillwalky. Zips are nice and neat and the liner is more hidden than the pics suggest. It is roasting though and I did manage to get it at half that price albeit in green.

I got one of these parkas from Cotswolds recently:

https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/ayacucho-mens-highland-winter-parka-A1213363.html?colour=124

Waxed cotton, I can confirm it's pretty waterproof having been caught in a deluge. Warm but not stifling or bulky. Plus it was reduced quite a lot a few weeks ago.

Smart enough to wear for meetings on too-cold-for-suit-jacket days but casual enough for the pub. Works for me 😁

Hoods ... hoods everywhere.

Not smart enough for me.

But if you wanna look like Jazza go for it.

I bought one of these earlier in the year:

https://www.craghoppers.com/365-5in1-hooded-jacket-ombre-blue/

It is actually pretty good quality, smart looking, very waterproof. It also has a removable quilted inner for when the weather gets a bit warmer.

warm, smart, waterproof

It's the word "smart" that throws this, partly as everyone's definition of smart is different (see people suggesting coats with a hood). A plain, likely black softshell might work, it's not really smart but I get away with one in the office in the winter, I wouldn't wear it to a client meeting mind you.

If not, a big, heavy wool coat could work, it'll be smart and warm, not waterproof but will stay warm when wet.

I have a wax barbour, no range rover and don't live in the countryside. I used to live in the Countryside, had a Defender and a different wax barbour. Will double check the stereo types when I move back as to what coat I can wear depends on what car I should drive.

Anyhow, I'm about to get a Didriksons Marcus Parker, my Barbour is about 15 years old and is now showing its age....(and I'm not quite as svelte as I was back then as well)

I have a Rab Electron, great for walking, but not very smart. For an around town jacket I prefer them to go past my bum, just keeps me warmer.

I got one  a couple of years ago having seen it flagged up on here. Good price for down, and no signs of wear.

Similar hunt for me and the Didriksons look perfect but cannot actual buy any of them in the UK?? I like the look pf the "Odd Parka" but either my google skills are lacking or its not vailable and seems that goes for most of the coats/jackets on their website. Does that mean Im back to the drawing board?
