I'm looking for a chess set as an Xmas gift, around the £40 / £50 mark - any recommendations ?

If you're in London there's the shop [s]on Euston Rd[/s] worth going in for a fondle around.

Personally I like a basic burnt staunton, reminds me of school

EDIT, it's moved to 44 Baker Street, London W1U 7RT

Cheers Stoner - I'm in Cumbria and don't think I'll be getting down to London before Xmas.

drop them a line anyway. Theyre big on mail order as they have customers all over the world.

They do great mail order too. It's a fab and slightly odd shop. About as 'specialist' a shop as you can get without it needing opaque window blinds 🙂

I quite like the Lewis chess set, though the rooks are slightly confusing looking. What I did do, though, was get a 'Make your own chess set out of plaster of Paris' kit for Christmas once. Very fun if you want a kind of long-winded, but rewarding gift.

I have visions of lots of plaster of Paris' casts of willies spread out on a chequerboard 🙂
