Hi, A friend is setting up a local fitness business and wants to get a basic website on the go. She wants something that she can manage herself and is not that Tech Savvy - I know there is free online software out there, but wonder if anyone can recommend something from experience. She also asked about 'data capture' which is new to me, but captures email address to make a mailing list? Thanks.

Most DIY business sites are a waste of time and at best just make the business look unprofessional. But if you must, try Wordpress, Joomla or similar.

Much better to put your time & skills into your business & making money and then pay someone to do the site for you.

Thanks Phil. Have looked at paying someone and this is not an option at the moemnt for a number of reasons. Only looking for a basic site for contact, background etc. as I suspect she will use Facebook more for news and updates.

Adobe Muse is free to use, until the new year.

USe Wordpress then. There are loads of free templates around so she'll be able to find a design she likes.

To catch peoples email addresses firstly you'll need a reason for users to give them to you on the site. Find a template with a form you can customise to get the info - when submitted this can either be emailed to her or set up a database on the web hosting to store the info.

+1 Wordpress.

Actually its fast becoming the complete solution to most sites 🙂

Especially coupled with PayPal, Facebook and Twitter etc.

+1 wordpress if you use a decent host you can install it on your server and use it as a proper web doamin so you don't have to use the .wordpress.com

Lots of stuff on the wrodpress sit about how to do it etc, just done it for a mate and he is well pleased as he can uplad pics and write his news on and it looks okay...

Facebook page?

(Wordpress is probably the answer you seek)
