My current printer, 10 yr old HP1200, has given up. What should I replace it with for home use? Not too expensive, reliable, Mac drivers ...

Any ideas or experiences?

If you print a lot every month then the cost per print should dictate which printer you buy. Kyocera Mita are one of the cheapest to run, but not the cheapest to buy. If you are a low user then stick to HP as they are usually reliable. You've done very well getting 10 years out of your old one.

Do a trawl of as many online shops as possible to see if they have any seconds/clearance models as I picked my last one up for half price just because it didn't have any manuals or CDs with it!

But as Gold says, in the end it's all going to depend on exactly how much you plan on printing as the toner cartridges could end up costing way more than the printer itself if you get through a lot of them...

get one of these mate HP1010 (or today's model as they change every bloody month)

we have about 8 of these in the office, all over 3/4 years old and they have been bullet proof, also cartridge world can fill the toner at a fraction of the cost.

Try dabs.com they have some cracking deals aswell,

Thanks - looks like a cheap HP is the way to go. A new printer is not much more than a new toner cartridge!!! Ridiculous!!!

I've replace our 2 brother printers with HP12??, the toners for the brothers were £60, and the drums were £120.. The HP is just one cartridge (no seperate drum/toner) and they cost £35... bargain!

another vote for the HP cheapo - ours is a 1018.

bullet proof as the man says.

My brother (computer geek in a computer geek office) brought one in when their expensive thing went wrong. Everyone now uses it even though the big shiny one has been repaired.

1018 HP done over 50,000 sheets and counting.

Carts are cheap off the net, or drill a hole in and use ebay toner refills
