So my 11 year old laptop has finally died. Hoping to pick up a new one in the Black Friday sales. Needs to run some video editing software, used for Zwift and doing some work on. Ideally a 16/17 inch screen. My dying one is a HP. Not a brand snob, but would like good value and ideally for it to last a while…. Budget upto £800 ish. Would go to £1000 for an absolute bargain that will last for ages before being obsolete!
suggestions???
Thanks!!!
HP have some excellent deals on their Envy range - I've been really happy with mine. https://www.hp.com/gb-en/shop/list.aspx?fc_sb_envy=1&sel=ntb
£800 will get you a very good regular laptop, or a crappy gaming laptop, so a lot depends on what your usage is and whether you really need a dedicated GPU.
Also screen size... a 13/14 inch is much better for portability than a bigger, heavier 16/17" screen. And a smaller screen with no dedicated GPU will give you better batery life too.
So as always, it depends on your specific requirements...
If you don't mind it not being the current model I would say this is quite a decent bargain - 15" Surface Laptop 5. Pretty much 50% off
paying extra for the touch screen with that one I guess,?
Also I'd want an OLED/nano IPS screen @120hz+ for that money.
I don’t need a touch screen (unless I’m missing out on something) and the only game I’d play is Zwift… my eyes aren’t what they once were so I don’t mind the bigger screen. The one that’s died is a 17 inch, and I’ve lugged that around for 10 years easy enough!

Not missing out on anything, I have an Asus expert book with flip screen and touch screen.. I keep forgetting it has those features.
One feature I do like though is the OLED screen for watching videos etc, on.
I have bought Asus laptops for my daughter and myself and have been very happy with the design, quality and reliability. There is what looks like a good value 14" model at John Lewis

A gtx 4070 and a 14thgen i7 is a bit overkill for the requirements ?

Funnily enough, pretty much the only time I use the touchscreen is in Zwift.
