I have a Plusnet router. I am getting some dropouts with a firestick and my android phone hates it.

Thinking that a new router will improve things.

Any recommendations?

Get one or more wireless APs instead.

I was on Plusnet. It was dreadful. Have replaced it with a BT Smart Hub 2 and a mesh disc. Both can be had off eBay for a decent price (router cost me £30 for a brand new one).

Set up was really easy and just a matter of updating the broadband username and password in admin on the router. Haven’t looked back, great signal throughout the house and no drop outs. Two of us working from home permanently and it has fixed endless Teams issues.

Similarly I was with Plusnet. About 14 months ago I noticed that the WiFi performance was poor, validated by running ethernet to the laptop. Bought a cheap WiFi router about 2 weeks prior to lockdown v1. That was initially ok but when I started WFH it was awful.

In the end I moved to Zen. Their supplied router is a Fritz!Box 7530. 13 months in I've not had one dropout even when the three kids were learning from home, my wife was working from home and so was I. All using teams, zoom or google classroom.

So I'd highly recommend that router. Looks to be £132 from Amazon. When I did the maths it actually worked out cheaper for me to move to Zen.

I’m also on plusnet and had similar issues. Spent about £15 on a BT smart hub on eBay and all was much improved.

Needs a bit more setting up but a Vigor 130 modem and Synology router do the job in our house. The modem needs a small tweek to get it to pass the DSL through to the router where you do the login to you Plusnet account.

This will work with most unbundled local loop providers and has the advantage that the hardware gets regular updates when vulnerabilities get disclosed.

I was in the same boat with my Plusnet one - after a bit of investigation bought an BT Smart Hub 2 off of eBay as above. There are two versions of it, you need the 'yellow port' version. Very easy setup, very cheap (think I paid £40 as it was brand new) and makes a big difference. Much better wireless signal around the house now. I though I was going to have to invest in a mesh system or some repeaters but the Plusnet router was the issue.

Plusnet user too.

Is there a router that can be wall mounted and had a button that turns WiFi off but leaves the wired Ethernet on ?

Kids !!!

TIA

I was on Plusnet.

We've moved from Virgin Media to Plusnet, their router is much worse. I have to restart it every few days otherwise my MBP can't connect.....

Also on Plusnet and had issues with the router. Bought a BT business hub 6 on eBay (£20, still shrink wrapped) and no issues so far.

Here's a guide on how to configure the Smart Hub 2:
