Thinking of cool presents..my 7 YO daughter loves the little kiddie walkie talkie we have, but the battery dies after about 2 hours (3 aaa) and the range/sound isn’t very good. It’s a toy basically.
Also - was left in the rain and died!

Thinking of better ones for her birthday - something good that will last. But she IS 7, so nothing too complicated..
Ideally recharge
Good build and range
looks pretty(ish!)

The decathlon ones look alright..ranging from 30-44 quid..

Any suggestions please, ta

Motorola T42

I have the triple pack, work really well. Impressed by the range, look decent, take normal batteries but I’ve put rechargeables in

One of the neighbours kids has a Motorola one on a strap round her neck so parents can find her (she's a bit younger than the other kids and they move as a pack from one garden to another playing whatever). The same one has been up numerous trees, dens, swings, etc for over a year so I guess pretty tough. Kid is getting wise though and I have found it abandoned informing a pile of toys and jumpers that it's tea time!
Seems to work well. Looking at the internet I think it's the green and white one from this pack:

Might have to get some rechargeable batteries too.

We have a uniden pack of three coloured ones that are great. They take rechargeable batteries and a usb cable charges them.

Motorola t42, they do a 3 pack for about £35. Takes AAA batteries though and no privacy filter / sub channels. No frills but cheap and tough and simple.

We got some Retevis ones for camping, I think rb627b for the grown ups, rb628b for the kids.

Another + for the Motorola whatever. MIL constantly bought the kids cheapo ones. They never worked well, always broke. Put the kids off them entirely 🙄

Remember if you are getting PMR446 that you'll want to set the CTCSS tones if you don't want them hearing/talking to strangers, there's quite the PMR446 scene among CB'ers with some running high power.

We got a 4-pack of the Motorola T42 (was going to have to look it up but apparently they are popular :D) for the 4 of us in our house. They feel solid and the kids love them. I love them too. Great fun, good quality and just the ticket. I was adamant we weren't buying some cheap crap off Amazon, but these still only cost £40 or so for the 4-pack. 2 white/orange and 2 white/blue.
