Can anyone recommend somewhere to get work done on the van that won't cost the earth but will also do a decent job?
Whenever I go to the VW Centre I always feel like they're ripping me off. And without a recommendation for alternatives I'd be reluctant to plump for any random garage.

Not used them myself, but my mates had good service at VAG bolton, they are specialists, not the main dealer.
Bit further than requested as they are between Bolton and Swinton.

Sale Volkswagen Audi just off the M60 get good reviews and are happily used by my work colleague for his old S4 and 330d.

I used Sale Volkswagen Audi a couple of times but didn't get the impression it was that cheap. Garage was also very untidy which always puts me off. Now use the little place next too Trafford timber - MVM, guy called Paul, likes his racing bikes and seems as honest as they come. Not VAG specific but he knows his onions.
I know Chris well at sale VW yes the place is scruffy but everyone I've sent to him have had good feedback about him.
He does know his stuff.

VAG specialists in Oldham and Bury, been going donkeys years so must be doing something right, might be worth a shout.
Awesome GTi. Independent VW (VAG) specialist. Good prices and well respected in the VAG enthusiast community for service / repairs and so on. I used to take my GTi there. Happy to recommend them.
Another recommendation for Awesome GTI. Not the cheapest but facilities and service are second to none.
They've been around a good while and are very well respected. I've been going to them since 1990 with various modified and standard GTIs but they will happily work on anything VAG.
