We have my extended American and Sri Lankan family coming to the UK for two weeks at the start of August.
We are planning to give them a really good experience of what our great UK has to offer.
For part of the holiday we want a big house/cottage in the beautiful Scottish or Lake district countryside where we can cook, walk, chat eat and generally chill out for a few days/week.
Can anyone recommend a nice place to rent?

(Naturally having Americans over mean that we will fit in York and London either side of this chilled out time!)

Thanks.

Any idea where you want to be in Scotland, its actually quite a large and varied place.

If you're just entertaining and want somewhere close to civilisation that they'll appreciate (and with good access to the highlands), stuckgowan house at Loch Lomond is cool. My brothers booked it for a birthday, works out at about £800 a night but plenty of rooms if you're splitting the cost.

Alternatively, give us an idea if what you're looking for and we can come up for more tailored suggestions.

Only been on hols to Scotland once and that was near Lake Awe just off the trail to Glasgow, in a forest cabin thing. I don't really have a set view of where abouts to go, so am open for folk to "sell me" on their favourite bit. We are travelling from Leeds.
If we were going to Lakes then anywhere would be OK, but I have a particular soft spot for Keswick.

Take a look at Gavinburn Cottages.

5 separate 'units' but should accommodate you all. Cracking views and ideally placed for city and countryside.

Bike straight from door and Alex the owner is a great guy.

For the lakes would recommend big pink house near wigton, it was a large B&B and now converted to self catering.
