Any recommendations? I usually record video at 2k (1440p) 60fps on a tripod. Desire zoom lens. 24mp photos. £300 max?

I'm currently looking around, but there's a lot out there. So far ruled out action cams and DSLRs (to record above 1080p looking at £600+).

Currently use a mobile without optical zoom for photography and really miss being able to zoom properly. Would rather spend money on camera than a mobile. For video currently using a Yi 4k action camera, again the lack of ability to zoom is frustrating.

I've bought a tough camera in the past but lack of lens protection, despite the toughened glass, failed it. I will be carrying it around on the bike, tripod has been known to fall over. Tough might be a good idea.

Unless the 2k video is a complete deal breaker, Sony do some great little compacts with good optical zoom and HD video in your price bracket.

To hit all your requirements you might need to be looking at a used camera?

When I wanted to shoot 4k video I picked up a 2nd hand Panasonic Lumix. They do few with different key features. I went for the LX. Its been great. Easy to use and very good video quality.

really depends what size zoom you want. 24mm is nice on the wide end, but not so many of those go up to 400/600mm. I'd look at panasonic and maybe fuji

S/H Sony 6000 series camera. They are all decent, but the 6000 is probably in your price bracket.

Think I'm going to have to spend more than £300 to get this, but preferably under £400. Scrap the 24mp requirement, just a number I saw. Don't really care what type of camera, just want to record at 4k (well, 2k @ 60fps, few do 2k and not 4k).

The Olympus TG-6 is one that cropped up in the searches, am tempted by it, but the video review I watched said the picture quality wasn't great as it's more about the waterproof ruggedness  and versatility of changing attachments on the fly. I don't intend to film underwater.

Expect below £400 is hoping too much too.

There's an A6000 on ebay. Looking at the photos by the camera, can see a vertical stripe texture covering the entire photo. Don't think I'll get that particular one.

Have a look on CEX. They do ratings and if you go for an A rated then they are often like new. You can always return it if you aren't happy. The LX7 is £130 but out of stock in A rating at the moment.

What resolution is 2k in your eyes? 1080p is 1920 wide, so often referred to as 2k.. it's not a massive step from in quality from 1080 to 1440 if that's all you're after

Interesting! Turns out 2k in my eyes is actually 2.7k. I have a QHD screen (2560x1440) so started recording video in 2.7k (2704 x 1520) just forgot... and then Youtube converts it to 1440p. 1080p on these screens just isn't quite up to scratch (unless I'm confusing it with 720p!).

If you're willing to go second hand then the Sony rx10 mark ii onwards does 4k video. High quality lens and a decent sensor.

Not 24mp (just over 20mp) for stills but still excellent quality. What's the motivator for 24mp stills? Sensor resolution in itself is not that important imo.

I have an Olympus TG-6 at work. I only use it for stills but it's a good camera for that.

At home I'm now into the mirror less camp with my old DSLR lenses.

Have you looked at mpb.com? I just got a lens from there and it was a painless service.

I have now, thank you, starting to get a shortlisrt now.

Previouisly was looking on Amazon.... where you have to wade through all the knock-off no-name shite which all looks the same and can be found at wildly different price ranges.

It's worth noting that YouTube at 1080p is much lower quality than a 1080p feed off a camera. Most of the difference in stream is the bandwidth, not the resolution, so YouTube 1080p might be a 1mbps stream, 4k youtube might be a 3mbps stream, but you'll probably get 1080p@30mbps on a stream from a camera.

Upgrade your phone? £300 gets you most of a refurbished S21 Ultra from the likes of giffgaff or black market. 3x and 10x zoom and 8k 24fps video (or 4k if you're slumming it). Also water resistant.

Had wondered about that tbh, a friend showed me the zooms on his Samsung a while back and they were pretty impressive.

Trying to find something that does what I want is proving pretty frustrating. The Yi 4K action camera I currently use does 2.7k @ 60fps but the footage quality can be a bit hit and miss with colours balance etc. None of the cameras in my price range can do that, it's either 4k @ 30fps or 1080p @ 60fps.

Starting to think I might be better off with two, one for video, one for photos.  For photos, I'm leaning toward the Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ100. Want something that wouldn't be aggro to carry around regularly. But then, that Samsung would fit the bill better as something to take photos on a daily basis with.
