Hello,
Looking for one for my father for a christmas present, but I know nothing about them.
What features are important? I'm guessing the ability to tell different metals apart and the depth it will search to, anything else?
Not looking to spend a fortune but could go into 3 figures for really good one. Any suggestions?

I'd get him in touch with the local detectorists, and the council Portable Antiquities Officer too.
There's a lot more to it than just waving the thing about,
