Having a pretty bad day and still loads of work to do.
Have been loving listening to David Rodigan on Radio 2 with his Reggae show. Such a shame it is only a 1 hour show.
Other than Mr Marley and the other well known big hitters recomend me some other good reggae or Dub.
Here you go:
The congos
Steel pulse
Toots & the maytals
Max Romeo & the upsetters
Black uhuru
Burning spear
Desmond dekker
Off you go! 🙂
Cheers will give it a listen.
Dr Alimantado - Best Dressed Chicken in Town
U Roy - Dread in a Babylon

Good places to start are:
King Tubby
Scientist
Mad Professor
Vibronics
All dub reggae.
Natty, try him.
Cheers guys, blood pressure significantly reduced. Thinking I should get a new stylus for the decks and get back into vinyl.
You'll need to upgrade your speakers as well 8)
Trojan Dub Collection is on Spotify, lots of stuff on there that you can investigate further.
+1 for Dr Alimantado and Burning Spear (Marcus Garvey is probably my favourite Reggae record)
The Skatalites in Dub (w/King Tubby) is great as well.
Used to be friends with a group of rastafarian lads from muswell hill. Their sound system needed more than 1 transit to transport. Everything I can ever get will always pale into insignificance.
FFS, nearly forgot the mighty Lee Scratch Perry.
earnest ranglin
The Abyssinians
Keith Hudson
Jah Shaka
African Headcharge (and many other On-U Sound system bands)
ohh yes I forgot Steel Pulse - Handsworth Revolution is an absolute must hear.
horace andy - legend. saw him for the first time a few weeks ago at beatherder.
Mighty Diamonds are worth a listen.
kind of..
Culture: Two Sevens Clash
Mikey Dread
jimmy cliff
gregory isaacs
sugar mynnott

rhythm and sound "with the artists" is brilliant, it's techno heroes
Basic Channel with a load of reggae artists. very dubby, great soundscapes.
ace of bass
If you like the Toots & Congos try The Chantels album.
I'm partial to Linton Kwesi Johnston too. The island comp is as good a place to start as any.
There is a Don Letts comp called Dread Meets Punk Rocker up(or down I forget which) town which is a 70's dub thing which I really like too.
+1 for Lee Scratch Perry. Madder than a box of frogs (but in agood way).
+1 for Dr Alimantado too.
We Are Going by Burning Spear. It's the track in the opening credits of the Movie Roam by the Collective. Awesome.
Lee Scratch Perry. Madder than a box of frogs (but in agood way).
Saw him at Reading Festival years back, most people were like WTF is going on here, he had a gold lamé suit on and was on some planet no so near by.
pretty much any Trojan collection CD set
Not really a reggae artist, but a perfect version of a reggae classic.
Some greats mentioned so far.
Yellow man - few great albums
Mitchigan and smiley - Some of my all time favorite reggae tunes
Anyone been to the Jamaican Fat Tire Festival?
Shak 47- thanks for the link.
Dread meets Punk Rockers Uptown is the Don Letts lp- the music he used to play in the Roxy.
The Soul Jazz 100% etc. series is also nice and a good night out if you get the chance. So many good recommendations, so many different genres, Dr.Ali, Horace Andy, Upsetters, John Holt, Eek a Mouse, the list is endless.
great thread.
African Headcharge, wow, that takes me back! (to the early 90s...)
Congos +1, also anyone mentioned the Heptones yet?
I couldn't find 'Why Must I', honest.
Best idea is to take your time checking out Trojan, Blood and Fire etc
This brings back some hazy memories!
Matumbi - the most Righteous of awesome and original reggae bands...
10ft ganga plant...got it goin' on....
There is an amazing 4 disk set called 'This is Reggae Music' get that. If you have trouble send me an email with your address and I will send you a copy.
Second the Soul Jazz 100% Dynamite collection and sequels. Marcus Garvey by Burning Spear is one of my favourite albums ever.

+ 1 for King Tubby as well though I like those albums with Augustus Pablo, rockers meets tubby uptown, firehouse etc
riding scared - nice to see that eek a mouse track, I haven't heard that for a decade!!!
Linton Kwesi Johnson not mentioned yet?
LKJ in dub. mmmm great albums
blues parties- do they still exist?
Nice bit of old roots reggae
More modern stuff
Another vote for Toots & the Maytals.
We saw them at the 02 academy in Sheffield last year and they were excellent - Toots had so much energy.
