Trying to sell a router on eBay, last time it was bought by a bidder that eBay then cancelled. This time I've had 1 silly low offer and another that's worth considering. The guy has good feedback, is there a reason not to sell it off eBay. I appreciate it's against their rule book.

Is it an official offer via eBay's system or is they guy asking to do a deal outside of eBay?

Many do the latter, it's cheaper, but it undermines eBay as a platform. However I think eBay has brought this on themselves as their fees are so high. I'm only listing items when there are final value fee offers

Yes it's the later. Have the fees gone up? It's odd though, when I put it on gumtree I get no offers then on eBay I've had 3 in 12 hours.

May I be really cheeky and ask an Ebay q?  Is there any reason why I should not accept cash on collection?  It's a low amount and no alarm bells are ringing.  Thanks!

I've accepted cash on collection before, especially for expensive items

Just need to be careful if you are sharing contact details via ebay messenger. They scan the message for this so there is a risk they will pick it up then charge you the final value fee.

I got a warning from them a while ago for doing it and told next time I would be charged the final value fee 🙂

I've had a few warnings about accepting offers. They will sanction you if there's 3or 4 within a month I think. Best tactic is just list stuff with a best offer option. Be aware eBay usually sides with a buyer. I sent something out which Rmail damaged and it looks like I'll have to refund the buyer as they've just 'asked for a refund'. Rmail claim bad packaging but I'm taking pictures next time just in case of this. Cash on collection is usually fine unless its for a car/motorbike late at night and they want to meet you in the middle of nowhere!

if you're having something collected in person then cash is safer than paypal. Ebay's despute resolution centres around the correspondence you've made through their messaging system and tracking numbers for postage / couriers. If you posted something and someone claimed falsly not to have received it then the tracking number would prove that they did. However if someone pays paypal, collects in person, then claims to ebay not to have received it you have nothing (that ebay will recognise) to prove that they did and the buyer can claim the payment back through paypal. So - especially for higher value items - if collected in person then cash is king, paypal leaves you open to fraud.

There's a counter offer button for the seller to use if they aren't happy with the offer received....

Also, when you list an item with offer option, you can set it to automatically accept offers at a price you’d be happy with , and automatically reject insultingly low ones.

Thanks maccruiskeen, the ad had clearly stated collection only due to the weight although that did not deter one persistent person from asking me to bubblewrap and courier it.  Keen to keep my 100% feedback.

Yep, had this too.  I wasn't even trying to avoid fees as I think the fees are fine, the buyer who collected the item didn't actually go through the process of winning it on eBay so I had to cancel the listing to stop anyone else buying it.  That is when eBay caught me.

I think some people just amend the price to a ridiculous price where no on will possibly buy it and then let the item end naturally so eBay don't catch it.
