Having just bought a Nikon D5000, I think I could do with some decent pointers in its use and to get me out of the standard auto modes sharpish (otherwise I'd better sell it again and get a compact!)
Anybody got a good one that's worth buying?
Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Not specific to any camera, but it will get you off Auto mode.
Otherwise the books by Scott Kelby are reckoned to be pretty useful.
This is a useful guide to show you how the main controls interact - http://www.kamerasimulator.se/eng/?page_id=2
I've got that Brian Peterson book - it's decent imo.
Have a look at the tutorials section on Talk Photography as well - http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=62
I have one called "The Art of Photography" by Bruce Barnbaum - I have shouted invective at the author for each page other than those only containing photos 🙂
I have a few, but the aforementioned Bryan Peterson book is good.
My personal favourite is "Nikon D5000: From Snapshots to Great Shots" by Jeff Revell.
