As we all know, Reebok are worn by burglars, Puma by the French, Nike by Americans, children and prisoners.
New Balance are exclusively worn by middle aged ****s with pizza ovens and log burners.

However, salvation is at hand.
JD sports are currently disposing of Adidas Los Angeles in various colours for £50.
Obviously, one should only be seen in Samba (Super for preference), Superstar or Stan Smith, but Los Angeles are a pleasant palate cleanser.

New Balance are exclusively worn by middle aged * with pizza ovens and log burners.

OI!! I resemble that accusation! No log burner or pizza oven but I am a middle aged * with a very large selection of New Balance 574's in different colours. Love my old school Adidas but my gibbon-esque feet are too wide to wear my narrow fitting Gazelles or Spezials all day. Pub duty only.

Just about to order these from JD for Binnerette number two who requested these for Christmas. My work here is done 😀

Cheers SC-XC Yep... I've sized up as I've got a pair myself and I know how dinky the sizing is. I find Gazelles the same

As much I wanted to own a pair of Sambas etc, they were just too narrow for me.

I am however loving my first pair of Air max 90s since ~2000ish.

Loving the character assassination of different trainer wearers. Where do Merrell fit in? Was on a business trip and was disappointed to be wearing the same pair as my retirement aged American colleague.

Used to be exclusively adidas until my knees gave up, but I can’t wear them now as Samba have insufficient “boing” in the soles.

I have a couple of pairs of ZX750, one for work 'cos they're knackered and a pair for "best" - plus a really nice pair of Spezial for "very best"

Used to love my Air Max 90s but according to my kids I'm way too old for them now!  😥

I used to be heavily into adidas as a *cough* younger man.  Visited the custom lab in Liverpool when it opened, mainly limited edition shell toes.

Now I'm exclusively New Balance 574 (can't afford a pizza oven, no gut) because they're the only trainers wide enough. At least now I know why everyone moves into them when they hit 40.

It's either that or go for the huge wide foot overhang in a pair of air max one. 🤢

@pictonroad - As a fellow wide-footed monkey, I normally wear 574's, but just to mix it up a bit I've recently had a trip down memory lane to the trainers of my yoot with some Diadora Camaro's, which are equally as accommodating for those of us with feet like Orangutang's and come in a nice selection of colourways, just like 574's 😀

if its the kegler super, it has to be the black nubuck/yellow hanon colab from a few years ago.

hanon kegler

had some navy LA in 95 then the blue/yellow soled TRX which are virtually identical to the untrained eye

always liked the munchen (japanese variant) suede/gum (as opposed the jimmy saville & friends standard bulbous sole munchen / trimm trab variant..)

quite like these puma madrid/gum sole <£30 on asos UK9 only

https://www.asos.com/puma/puma-madrid-trainers-in-grey/prd/203215157#colourWayId-203215160

and ps samba super are part time firemen / window cleaner shoes..

Merrell?
Steals the Guardian from McDonalds, ranks local weathergirls out of 10, owns an ice axe but has never used it, 'cares about the planet' but has six kids.

Diadora?
Never pays full train fare, once fed laxatives to a police horse, used to steal dinner money from fat kids, had a perm in the 80s, has a mate called Jam Face.

Diadora Camaro’s,

Oh yes. At the time I was disappointed I did not have the matching Puma trainers and bag, or Addidas trainers and bag. But looking back the Diadora's were 'more exclusive' anyway.

I liked them so much that I had two pairs of Diadora SPDS back in the day - one pair in the early 2000's even had a cut away collar on one side like todays Enduro offering.

I'd love to see the actual ergonomic model adidas have chosen to mould their footwear on. Blues are old size 10 freeriders, greys are post-Adidas size 11. I've a pair of Terrex that are similarly spindly.

Oooh, Just remembered that when I went to Uni (1992) I bought some very early Merrell approach shoes that were seen as quite 'radical' at the time.

I also bought some new fangled Teva shoes to go with the sandals as well...

I'm 9.5 in normal shoes, but had to get 11 in the Freerider Pro Mid (10.5 in Freerider Pros, 10 in basic Freeriders).

I don't think they just have one model.

I'm no American, but I only wear Nike, wide forefoot and narrow heel, they always fit well.

Mountain fly low in pink for me, my favourite shoe ever, will be sad when it's gone.
Pegasus for office duties, currently in a black paint with pink and turquoise accents.

Terra kigers for daily dog walks in dry season, Merrell or Scarpa boots for the wet.

Converse are for musty smelling soap dodgers who steal mum's band t shirts, don't clean out their rabbits and eat their own bogies on the bus.

Under Armour? Section 37/41.

Five Tens? Has an ancient Rab duvet jacket mended with duct tape, goes climbing in Morocco, mildly addicted to Ibuprofen, Border terrier, drives a Berlingo, militantly vegan, owns clogs, possibly a New Model Army completist.

I’m intrigued what the rest of the ensemble is…

Dark blue chino style next trousers, shorts in warmer months (Mar/Apr-Nov), button down casual shirt is my usual approach to life.

I have some full blue 37s (I think) for leaving here and using when cycling in. Then todays 'for nice' 38s.

I'm not sartorially fixated and work in 'tech' so no dress code to speak of. T-shirts and shorts are fine as long as you know what you are doing and build robots 🙂

I've been wearing Pegasus 3 Goretex trail shoes to work, with jeans. Not sure I'd want to wear them actually running as the heel feels massive.

If I wore the trainers in the OP my mates would take the piss forever. Funny isn't it, what's acceptable is determined to an extent by stuff you liked when you were a kid, even 20+ years later.

I've said this on every trainer thread before (theres been quite a few)

Every Blokes taste in trainers is sealed in aspic when they hit 18, never to ever change. EVER!

Hence most of us wandering around, dependent on age, in Adidas Gazelles/Samba/Spezial, Nike Air Force 1's, Vans and New Balance 574's.

Don't really 'do' trainers (beyond way too many pairs of riding shoes), but my current foot demographic is 50% black on black Superstars and 50% Five Ten Sleuth. Up until a couple of years ago was pretty much exclusively Vans and DC but they've gone off the boil a bit IMO.

Wore lots of Vans until I found out how comfortable a set of Nike retro-ish looking trainers were in comparison.

Been Nikes every since for me, retro looking ones only though, the extra sole height is welcome too, haha.

Have to admit to having both a log burner and pizza oven though so take my opinion as you see fit.

It’s like saying you’re a football fan without wearing any obvious football regalia

That’s kind of the point. Maybe you should learn some history? You do know that no real self-respecting football fan would ever be seen dead in any ‘football regalia’, right? Replica shirts are like half n half scarfs. Strictly for kids and tourists

This is a fantastic documentary about football ‘casuals’ and the huge impact the whole movement had on fashion in this country and worldwide. The main catalyst for this country now being seen as a setter and exporter of ‘streetwear’

Half the stuff people are talking about here only exists because of what was going on in this country on the terraces in the 80’s and 90’s.

For example: when Borg played Macenroe in the Wimbledon final, one wore Fila, one wore Sergio Tachini. Neither we’re officially imported into the UK at the time, yet all were worn all over the terraces

School trips to Europe as a kid were eye opening:
Several naughty boys and girls returned with additional suitcases, loaded with thousands of quids worth of pilfered sportswear.

Watch the documentary mate. It’s all in there. When Liverpool we’re dominating Europe on the pitch, their fans were having a field day liberating expensive European sportswear from continental shops

I had a job years ago designing the marketing for a shop next to Piccadilly records on Market Steet in town who sold it all. It was legit. He hired a big van, got his mates to chip in all they had, drove to Adidas HQ in Germany and bought up all the styles and colourways they didn’t officially import into the UK. Mad green and red Trimm Trabs and stuff. Made a fortune.

Loads of UK fashion labels were set up of the back of this kind of stuff

I'm not a label freak, but I do like Adidas stuff (even some of that Moncler colab above). Probably because the 3 stripes branding is so synonymous with sports, and was very prominent in my early youth. I particularly like some of the Adidas Originals stuff, and at one point had some really nice Y3 trainers I got very cheap in a sale. But I have noticed that the mainstream UK imported stuff is very bland and a bit boring compared to some of the lines you can find in other countries/parts of the world. I used to know a fair few South Americans, and they would bring over Adidas gear that you'd never see over here, in colour combos that were a lot wilder than the typical UK items. Maybe Adidas had factories in South America, I'm not sure. But brands often have regional variations and entire alternative product lines according to the local markets. A shame, because  lot of the UK stuff is pretty drab right now.
