You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi,
I and the rest of the family have a number of these Smart Lunar R2 rear lights for a few years because with the rack mount (like this) we can use the same lights across all our bikes and they are really bright, rechargable, last for ages on a charge and were cheap enough to have a spare in the pannier in case of running out of charge.
Unfortunately, the last one died and they don't seem to be available any more, just the single LED that uses AAs rather than an internal battery.
So does anyone have any idea what might be reasonable replacements? I ride with a saddlebag and panniers on my commuter, so the majority of currently available lights that go on to a seatpost are no good as there isn't enough remaiing seatpost below the saddlebag. Ideally a more modern light but with the same fitting so we can reuse all the mounts that we have across the 'fleet'.
Thanks!
I use a cateye reflex on a bike that doesn't have a dynamo. I'd also look at Busch and muller
Edit.. ah I misread. The cateye is battery. Still the Busch stuff is great. https://www.bumm.de/en/products/akku-batterie-rucklichter/parent/326/produkt/326us.html?
The bracket looks like a standard square clip for the light. Have you tried mountIng moon or Planet X etc on it?
I think this one would fit.

One of these for me and then take your pick of several Cateye lights...

I used the saddle rail mount from my Moon rear light bolted to the rear of the rack. I would have drilled a hole it it except the modifications I'd made to the rack over the years meant there was already a hole in it.
This is the mount:

The top part of the clamp removed, bolt with washer went through rack with mount below.
Measure the size of the fitting (the square "male" bit) for the light then we can see if they are compatible.
In contrary mode, but I've used the single LED version for years. 1W LED rather than 2x0.5W, it uses AAA (not AA) batteries so a spare pair of alkaline batteries cost pence. It also has two additional LEDs below the main lens
Two minor mods: a smear of vaseline or similar around the sealing gasket and a zip tie around the clip if you're going bouncy-off-road (but that's me, rather than my experience)
Batteries last all winter in constant light mode (two commutes per week)

I fitted one of these to my rear rack (I may have bent it a bit I can't remember) and added some skate deck grip tape:

and now use my Exposure TraceR with it's seatpost mount.
Cateye do a rack mount that is also a standard fit for for their other mounts. All rear lights will fit including the Rapid X with an adaptor. It’s a great system. I rotate a handful of Rapid Micros on the trike (normally two plus a Fly6) and two on most other bikes. Al USB rechargeable.

Also available on Amazon. And elsewhere.
Thanks very much all, very useful. I have a narrow rack but looks like the cateye might fit and allow flexibility.
I have several moon rear lights of slightly different styles, but they all have the square fitting shown on that under seat mount above.
All of the moon lights came with both a seat clamp rubber band mount with the square fitting, and a 'clip' mount with the square fitting. I've cable tied the clip mounts on to the light mount holes on rear of our pannier racks. I can then swap the lights between different bikes, and still have the seat post mounts to use if I want an extra on the seatpost.
Edit - most of the lights are the 'Moon Commet-X' model. Really happy with them, and haven't had any die over the years I've been using them.
