My dad had Satan's Chariot(Familiale 7seater) in my youth, then a mate from the diving club had a Volvo 262C, both awesome. I had a VW LT camper many years ago too, that was fun. If they were remotely practical for UK roads I'd have one of these in an instant.

Reading the comments on the Volvo 340 takes me back... we had a 360GL as the family car when I was at school (it replaced our Morris Ital) - I think in a Clarkson tone it was "seriously uncool", everyone took the piss.

As a car it was bloody brilliant, even had the black rubber rear spoiler that weighed almost as much as the car did. A ford escort van drove into us, the ford was written off whereas the Volvo suffered a broken head lamp and replacement headlight wiper (damn those things were expensive!)

There are some seriously uncool cars here, that pig-ugly Vanden-Plas, for example, but the little Renault 4 oozes cool!
That Lada Cossak, is that a Soviet Fiat Panda 4x4? A lot of those communist cars, Yugos and Ladas, are basically Fiats built to a lower standard. Firm I worked for had a couple of Yugos as company cars! 😯
I drove my dad's Volvo 244 for a while, serious fun, I used to rag the nuts off it! I remember watching the Bathurst 500 endurance race in Australia, and there were 244's racing, bloody quick, too, I could happily drive one with updated motor and drivetrain. Possibly in the dark brown my dad's was...
...or maybe not. 😀

I'd love to find a standard, unmolested S1 106 Rallye. Although like lots of other cars on the thread, its probably a pretty cool car, or at least I think so.

Yes,it's too cool for this thread.

I'd agree on loving to find one as standard but I'd HAVE to go and molest it by fitting a tujp5.. keeping the original tucked away under an old rug ;O)

There were 3 lovely condition Novas up at Knockhill last month. Really made me want one, especially the one that still had the 3-spoke alloys!

I was going to ask Santa for a 2.8i Capri 2S, but seems that's been done. So I think I'll have one of these.

Have owned numerous cool/uncool cars (loads of mini variants, a 2CV, even a couple of Allegros).

Don't think they're uncool as such, but would love to own these at some point.

Could be, I know that you could fit Fiat motors in as replacements. Seriously fun cars though.

My brother and Dad had Japanese imported Nissan Pulsar GTi-R's, 2.0 Turbo 4wd in a Nissan Sunny.. Standard 275 BHP, but my brother was running 420 BHP and Dad's was 375 BHP. Unbelievably quick, 0-60 was under 4 seconds in brothers and 4.5 in Dad's. 160+ mph was achieved in both.

Ugly as sin in some people's eyes but I loved the way they looked.

I had many a happy time driving them when I was 19-21. Enjoyed embarrassing a guy in a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 at the lights and showing him a clean pair of heels on a back road..

Strada Abarth - good choice

I concur.
🙂

Too many cool or average cars on this thread though, BMW, Skoda, Subaru, Ford etc

I'll wade in with this, there's single numbers of these left now 🙁

[img] [/img]

So rare I can't find a pic of a decent one. Fiat 131 Supermirafiore Sport. The genesis of one of the finest rallying engines ever made.

Or a Lancia Montecarlo

Or a Lancia Beta HPE Volumex

I'm looking at some of these uncool cars, and realised that most of the cars I have owned have been worse than uncool: they've been bland.

Musy go off and rectify that.

I had a Chevette, lovely little car, loads of room in the back, always wanted the hot one, with the 2.3ltr slant-4 motor. I had a Mk 1 Nova after that, got a set of those three-spoke alloys for it, fun car to drive, until you hit water at speed, because the distributor was right behind the grill... 😳

I had a 131 Mirafiori like the one PeterPoddy posted above. Mine was a 1981 and cost me £400 at auction. The insurance cost me so much that I could only afford to pay for 6 months. Turned out okay though because it had disintegrated before it needed renewing. Comfiest velour seats ever.
like this one (same colour anyway)
[img] [/img]

A few years later, split with a girlfriend brought about another rush to the head and the purchase of this lovely machine with my half of the deposit on a house.

Mk1 MR2 T-Bar. Mine was two tone - white and silver. 8)

[img] [/img]

I'd have a Mirafiori tomorrow if I could find a minter.

this (same as the first Mrs B's old car) most definitely is though. Classic case of Mutton dressed as lamb (much like its owner 🙂 )

well it is a lot less cool than the Jag e-type which was around at the same time, even though it was a far better car!

Maybe that should be a lot less cool than it should be...

Big citroens? Not cool but I've had a few great ones. Well three V6 Xm's, inlcuding a late and early 24v. Properly quick 🙂

I do fancy a C6 - I just need the excuse!

However the wife wants a DS (1970's) which is cool to some people!

That old Alfa GTV is one of the coolest cars EVER made

My Dad had one - I learnt to drive on it - he very nearly bought a Renault 17TS instead of it but I think one of the electric windows on it failed as we were looking at it.

[img] [/img]

How about a Kia Soul then, which I think doesn't look too bad:

[img] [/img]

or

[img] [/img]

or Nissan Cube:

[img] [/img]

I don't mind the Juke:

[img] [/img]

My mother had a Singer Chamois:

[img] [/img]

And my father had a couple of Sunbeam Rapiers:

[img] [/img]

which were a lot better looking that the Rapier that came after it:

Uncool you say? I had one of these and I'd have another in a heartbeat.

[img] [/img]

Mine handled like a dream, did 40mpg and was one of the most rewarding cars I've ever driven.

I'd also have one of these:

[img] [/img]

My brother had one, it felt a lot like the Golf - as it should, for they shared a floorpan and front suspension, but was much more refined and with the active rear axle it tucked into corners beautifully. I suspect it's a rubbish track car with all that weight in the nose, but as a road car it was sublime.

Disappointingly I have not found anything Barryish to post on this thread.

However, for those wanting a good read I'd recommend the following.

http://www.barryboys.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=33064

Takes a few pages to get going, but is a jolly good read. I rate it up there in the company of such esteemed STW threads as "What's this joker on about"

Tell me about it Pigface! My mate had one. I think describing at a tin can would be giving Fiat build quality a reverence it barely deserves. It still is the most utterly insane vehicle I've ever been in. I've been in a lot faster cars, but nothing felt as life-threatening as that thing! Like putting a jet engine in a roller skate!!

I had one of those Alfas

1966 Giulia sprint gt veloce from California

It had a later interior and front panel and I just didn't have the cash for getting it back to original

Sold it for under £4k about 3 years ago. The bloke that bought it got the correct step nose front panel fitted at an alfa specialist about a year ago. The specialist told him it was the cleanest body he'dever seen on a 105 coupe

Going to regret getting rid of that car for a long time

Doh!

Ha ha Binners I am glad you understand. Simply the maddest vehicle I have ever driven, left you shaking with a mix of adrenaline and mortal fear but wanting to have another go 😆

Nothing has ever come close to it apart from the first Renault 5 GT Turbo, then they calmed them down as well.

I used to know a guy who had one of those. The turbo gave it a massive, sudden burst of power but the lag was about a fortnight; probably explains why most of them ended their days in a field behind a hedge, upside down and rotating quietly.
