Right then, here goes! Am after something to use as hand luggage, and needs to do the following;
Carry a laptop and tablet securely - Size not an issue here, as my laptop is only a 12.1" screen jobbie
Carry power cable/adaptors for above
Carry a change of underwear/shirt
Carry small wash kit
Carry a book or two
Still have anough room to carry a box of cigars and/or a bottle of something from duty free!
Have easy water bottle carrying holder
Be smart enough to use as a bag to take to meetings when I get to where I'm going
and, here's the crucial bit;

Not look too much like a laptop bag!

At the moment, am thinking of a plain black Timbuk2 courier bag, but they're a bit limited on the water bottle pocket, I think. Any other suggestions?

Ta!

I usually trawl round places like PC World looking for divine inspiration in situations like this. For all the recommendations in the world, you can't beat manhandling the goods first-hand to get an idea of whether you like it or not.

Blind, I'd be looking at something like a Tech Air rucksack or something similar.

Cheesy, would prefer not to have a wheeled case (Have 2 wheely bags for hold luggage (Samsonite and a mahoosive Animal one)) A shoulder bag is preferable

Are Crumpler worth the money over Timbuk2?

Victorinox stuff looks interesting, thanks!

I use a samsonite Pro-DLX.

I can get a week's clothes and a laptop in it. Looks smart (can be wheeled into meetings) and is very robust.

[EDIT] ..ahh sorry just read your "do not want a rolling bag" comment..

Well if you did, I'd certainly buy some swans off you, or whatever. 🙂

I've used a Tumi T-Pass bag for about 10 years. It's totally indesctructible having been on several hundred flights, countless taxi boots etc and still looks like new. I currently use it for exactly what you specified, it expands to take the shirt, washbag etc and it even has a water bottle carrier on the front.

I have the material version, but you can also get it in leather which looks slightly less laptoppy

I have exactly the same Samonsite as can-uk which works very well. Just take a very small briefcase bag inside that just holds your PC (in internal lid poscket). Then leave the case in you hotel room and just take the small briefcase to meetings.

Capt Mainwaring beat me to it with a suggestion for Tumi.

I've had a Tumi messenger bag that's been used for work daily for 10 years. Apart from a little wear to the paint on a zipper, it looks like the day Mrs North bought it for me.

TBH, Flashy, I'd have thought you'd have been straight to Swaine Adeney Brigg for something bespoke. Standards must be slipping..!

Might fail on the looks too much like a laptop bag

I have a timbuk2 bag, it looks like the Belgium flag, I am not from Belgium but I like it.

I use it everyday for riding to work (sarni's etc), I use it for all short trips away. Trips tend to be 2 nights and I can easily fit everything in;
10inch laptop
powercable
(pants, socks, shirt) x2
Travel docs
meeting docs/notepad
Magazine
Jumper
3.5inch HDD
plastic resealable bag with bathroom stuff in.

Monday last week in Copenhagen it had room to fit in (on top of the above); 2 * 500ml bottles, 1 muffin and 1 big ham and cheese roll.

I have had this bag for 13 years and there is nothing wrong or worn out on it at all. 3 years daily use at university, 10 years daily use at work.

I think it is the best bag in the world. If you go to smart meetings then an all balck one might be best.
