Can anyone recommend some small reading glasses to shove in a jersey pocket? I'm looking for something either foldable or in a little case.
My arms are no longer long enough to hold the cafe menu away from my crap eyes. Cafe stops and reading OS maps are a challenge nowadays.
☹️
I ride in safety specs with a reader insert at the bottom
They're GRRRRRRRRREAT !
£1 reading specs from Poundland and get the case of your choice.
Might need to do this myself soon, but I currently just hold things I want to read further away or get someone else to look at them.
These.
On my second pair, had first pair about ten years til my prescription drifted, they cost me £25 in Boots, second pair were £11 from Sightstation, big windows on that Boots shop, really well made with really good lenses, I actually used them exclusively for a couple of years after crushing my proper prescription set, I read a lot and they're spot on, I've always found cheap/ Poundland ones to be terrible, John Lewis also do good quality non folding readers for about £20 with decent lenses for leaving at work etc.
£1 glasses from the pound shop have served me well. I keep tools for the trail in a supermarket pencil case and there is room for a pair of specs too. If they break it is no big deal. I usually buy 4 or 5 at a time so I have spares readily available.
https://venti20.com/PocketBlade-Alu-Rimless.php I bought two pairs years ago, before I needed eye surgery. They fold really thin (think of a fat fountain pen) so easily stowed away in any size bag or pocket. Not cheap thought!
Cheapy pound shop ones are fine for map/menu/train timetable reading*, and it doesn't matter if you knacker them.
*God, I hate getting old.
This is my not too distant future, for now if I’m struggling i get my phone out and zoom in using the camera. Old age is shit🙁
Aye, it's crap. I've been wearing glasses for 30+years but need varifocals now. When riding or walking, I wear contact lenses but I can no longer delay carrying some reading glasses with me for looking at stuff within 2 feet.
Woe is me.
if I’m struggling i get my phone out and zoom in using the camera.
Good tip, but you can't always do that if you need to zoom in on the phone screen instead of map.
😉
for emergencies I have a single lens from a pair of broken reading glasses, gets you out of a hole if things go pair shaped!
Also there's a magnifying glass on my silva compass. Ideal for menu perusal but you may get funny looks...
