No, wait, come back trust me.
Occasionally when I've got bugger all better to do, I've been watching reaction videos on YouTube, which is basically Tik Tok for the over 40s. The premise is that someone creates content and then someone else leeches their content, goes "ooh" and "ah" occasionally and then sits back to cash in the clicks. There is a light side and a dark side to this, sometimes it's Americans discovering Fred Dibnah or Sean Lock for the first time, other times it's just a blatant rip-off of someone else's work and I try and avoid those.
Anyway.
I've just tripped over this, "tribal people react." They've taken a few ****stani tribal elders, none of whom speak English and some of whom can't even read at all, and exposed them Western music. It's one of the most wholesome things I've seen in ages.
Good choice Cougar.
I've watched this YT channel quite a bit and it always puts a smile on my face. They also try western food for the first time which is worth a watch.
Who makes the money from this? The “cultural curiosity” on the producer?
The reaction to Jonny Cash’s Hurt is well worth a watch. Incredibly wholesome and picking up on the pain
I can spend hours going down the reaction video rabbit hole. Last time with the Ren "Kujo Beat down" videos, and catching up on the backstory behind it.
(Slight warning, the Ren video for the song contains some potentially disturbing imagery and naughty words)
I'll take a look at the channel you've posted Cougar, I've also been down the SoS rabbit hole in the past!
Best reaction video I saw, and it's not the traditional genre but a guitarist at a guitar show was doing a demo for acoustic amps.
He asked for a volunteer singer from the audience. A women duly stepped up. He asked if she knew the song he was about to play and said "you'll need to stand closer to the mic as the amp will be loud"
"I won't need the mic"
"Honestly this thing is turned up loud to be heard above the crowd (indoor exhibition)
"No I'll be fine"
Looking exasperated he says ok and starts to play the intro demonstrating how loud it is.
She then proceeds to sing so loud (and perfectly in pitch) that you can't hear the guitar!
The look on his face is priceless, he genuinely didn't know she was a well regarded professional opera singer!
And long story short she now reacts and critiques songs on YouTube on her channel The Charismatic Voice
Viewers suggest songs to her, her reaction to heavy metal, RATM (you can guess the song) and particularly Rammsteins Sonne (snow white spanking dwarves) video is hilarious
I'm home alone tonight and Americans discovering Fred Dibnah sounds spot on.
I went through a few of these reaction videos a year or so back, mostly "proper/classical" American musicians supposedly discovering rock bands. Some were cringingly bad, some seemed genuine. Reactions to Nightwish always funny - trained soprano singing rock? Like you've never seen Par Benatar?
Rushes off to find Yanks watching Fred…
Or The Magic Roundabout.
I've a couple of YouTube reaction channels I follow. I've learnt a lot about music theory, singing techniques, music production etc. and it has definitely developed my appreciation of music as a result.
Just watching that Danny video for the first time in years, certainly since we started visiting up there, weird to recognise locations now.
Or The Magic Roundabout
Is that a genuine thing, or something you made up? I'd watch that! Though TBH I reckon you'd get similar reactions from Brits who've not seen it since they were preschoolers. Chorlton and the Wheelies too.
There's an American couple, wholesome and naive to start with, and they do reactions various British things. Their best reactions are to UK advertising. They watch a whole video of Pepperami ads in this one
Went to look for the Magic Roundabout reactions and got distracted....
I hadn't seen this... but had seen' tribal leaders encountering cheesecake' before. I don't know why.
I like their sense of style.
They should have shown them this version of Sultans of Swing lol!
I'd much rather see their reaction to Sultans of Ping tbh. 🙂
What a load of bollocks
