Having moved into a new house my wife and I are having a thorough clean-out of all the junk we've accumulated over the last couple of decades. I'm trying to recycle what I can but there's a few things I'm not sure of

Electricals - I'm thinking just stick them all in the small appliances skip at the tip but we've got probably 10+ old phone handsets between us, properly old things, can anything be done with them or should i just remove batteries/sim and skip? Should I be worried about data on some of the smarter ones? don't think there's anything exciting on any of them.

Paper/Card - I've got quite a lot of soft back books that have glossy covers, does it do more harm than good to stick these into the paper recycling? just landfill them? These are generally things that time has rendered obsolete so no use charity shopping!

Stationary - we seem to have tons of stationary (biros, rulers, calculators, note pads) is there anything useful that can be done with any of it? Ship it off to a 3rd world country or something like that?

I think the brutal answer is bin the lot of it but I figured I should test the STW hive mind first!

Any other spring cleaning/life sorting tips are welcome (I've not started on the boxes of bike bits yet!)

Donate phones to charity.

Burn the rest and dance around it naked covered in pigs blood. This will help identify any Satanists among your new neighbours should you wish to befriend/avoid them.

Put the stationary in a plastic box and drop it at the charity shop, someone will give them a few quid.

Just pop the biros in our pen holders, my wife will soon make them disappear to god knows where.

maybe for some of it?

I'm pretty sure charity shops for the books is still a good idea.

Ask your local homeless shelter, they put out an appeal last year for some obscure stuff, to me anyway. Think they will be busy soon.

Thanks, some good stuff for me to look into! (enjoying the puns too)

Dammit perchy, too late for me to edit... (just 3 of us)

Books are things like UCAS application guides from 2005 and similar vintage SQA past papers for qualifications that no longer exist.

I took loads of stuff to the charity shop when I moved house. One time I had several bin bags of clothes to take but when I got home I realised I'd actually given them a bag of stuff that was going in the bin so it was old socks and worn out pants etc.
I phoned them to apologise but they said it okay, they'll just sell it on as rags so basically they will take anything (except VHS tapes!!)

Yes, our local charity shop also welcomes rags, which they can sell for recycling.

I am still sorting stuff in a house I inherited from a dear friend.

Lots of stuff went to the tip, made me very sad doing so as I had to be brutal if I needed to get it done.

Lots and lots of stuff went to rspca shop , some stuff what probably should have gone to the tip but I made sure each load had some good stuff in to make up the stuff that would have found it’s way into their bin.

Then I eBayed some stuff like model kits and dinky toys.

So divide into three piles tip, charity, sell.
