Hi all,
In the next step of regressing back to teenage-hood (I am also trying to learn to manual at the moment...) I'm thinking about getting a RC plane to distract myself over the next few weeks/months.
I used to have loads of RC planes and helis about 10 years ago, but not touched them since. As such, I am a beginner, but confident I can pick it up again quickly. I'd always wanted a 3D plane but never managed to get one, so would love to get something that could eventually have some 3D ability (assuming the budget will make this tricky)
Any suggestions for:
Under £100, ideally well under £100
RTF
Fairly hardy/cheap spares
Happy landing on a rough grass field
Can cope with a bit of wind
Not huge
Available in UK (or from abroad but fairly quickly)
I've seen this that seems decent (available on a UK ebay store for about £120 so a little pricey), I like that it has beginner mode but also 3D capable.
Anything around that's better than that?
Thanks!
Duane.
Would you not be better waiting until you can go somewhere to fly it?
I'm staying with my partner's parents - their house is in the middle of a field that they own.
Lucky sod!
We normally live in a semi-basement flat in London so it's a nice change! (and why I fancy having a RC plane to mess about with!)
Schoolboy Big Hitter error there druid!
Is there any way to mute a thread to avoid temptation and potential alcohol induced purchasing?
Asking for a friend.
Excuse my ignorance - what's "3D capable"
(Currently sat with a glass of wine looking and a closely mown 1.5 acre paddock - perfect location for a plane 😬)

Aye, ok cap'n.
Sharkbait - loosely, flips, inverted flight, loop de loops, hovering etc.
Or
Lots of 3D flying here:

Basically, a very powerful motor that can hold up the plane without the need of lift from the wings.
That was insane!!!

Drone?
You want something small and leccy with extra batteries n'est ces pas? There's loads of little foamy funfly thingies out there c/w radio etc. Obv you can spend more than £100, much more which would be the standard STW recommendation... 😉
We bought a hummer from HobbyKing for my FIL he normally flys scratch built models and he loves it and always takes it to the field, you can fly it normal style then adjust the throws and fly it hooligan style. The FIL loves as he has learnt new manoeuvres as the crashes are painless.
Legally now you need a “permit” to fly anything over 250 grams all the info is on the BMFA site
Look at the durafly Tundra at hobbyking

I would 2nd that, it was on my list but I managed to get a 2nd hand E flite Timber 1.5m instead and I'm still waiting to get out and fly the bloody thing !!!!!
I really do like the Grand Tundra
ta & how did you embed it?
I'm trying to get my dad to get the Grand tundra or the twin engine Mule something as it also looks good fun. Then I can fly it when I visit 🙂
Duane, how much kit do you still have? HK Hummer is a good call. Needs motor/lipos/charge/RX and all that jazz though. No probs operating within small field boundaries.

Problem is, £100 doesn't get very much of a usable, complete set up.
I don't have any equipment at all hence looking for a RTF.
I'd also rather not something too big, under 1m I guess. Any thoughts on the plane I linked in my first post? I think I may just buy it from Banggood.
should be perfectly good - looks like a reasonably standard moulded EPO job, cant speak for the electronics
gyro should help it out in windy conditions
Thanks, ordered it, let's see if it arrives before lock down finishes..!
