Got back from Mayhem to find that my bank account had less in it than should have been the case...

Didn't take long this am to find that many of my colleagues are also moaning. Payments due be made by our company have been affected as they use RBS...

WTF?

Natwest will pay any costs other bank customers incur as a result of their failure.

Keep a note (with evidence) of all charges and then claim off natwest.

BBC Article quote "We will automatically waive any overdraft fees or charges on current accounts," said Ms Allen. "This will be processed over the next few days," she added.

Message to Customers from Stephen Hester RBS Group Chief Executive
The problems of the past few days have caused disruption and inconvenience for our customers as well as for many customers of other banks.

I am very sorry for the difficulties people are experiencing. Our customers rely on us day in and day out to get things right, and on this occasion we have let them down. This should not have happened.

Right now my top priority, and the priority of the entire RBS Group, is to fix these problems and put things right for our customers.

This is taking time, but I want to reassure people that we are working around the clock to resolve these problems as quickly as we are able.

I also want to be clear that where our customers are facing hardship or difficulty we can and will help them. Our staff have already helped thousands of customers to access cash and we will continue to provide this service on a 24 hour basis while we work to resolve the problems.

I also want to reassure customers that no one will be left permanently out of pocket as a result of this, and again, they should contact us directly about this.

We have doubled the usual number of staff in our call centres, and for the first time ever we will open 1,200 branches across the country on a Sunday from 9am to 12pm. We are also extending opening hours in over 1,000 branches on Monday 25th June from 8am to 7pm.

Once again I am very sorry for the inconvenience.

so heres a hypothetical question (because other than renting my house off them i dont deal with RBS)

its ok saying charges incurred will be refunded but how about the effect it will have on your ability to obtain future credit ?

for example say a mortgage.....a few missed Direct debits will have serious repercussions non ?

Couple of grand in limbo from our RBS current account. No idea where it's gone. My wages haven't appeared today. Worried about transferring money from our savings account to cover mortgage etc in case it vanishes too. 😡

Not if I'm anything to go by - I've now missed 3 credit card payments in total through complete forgetfulness, it had no effect whatsoever on me getting a mortgage and I was told my rating is fine though I "could do with using a few more credit cards and not paying them off right away" lol

I can see them waiving charges on accounts held in their bank / group...

... but how will that work for my situation? I don't bank with those banks that have had the problem

I spoke to RBS today - they reckon tomorrow everything will be sorted.

'Keep a note of any charges you incur and we'll pay them'

fine thats all good. What about the time it takes me to phone round my DDs and tell them whats going on plus the admin time it takes me to collate all this info and send it off to them?

A spokesman suggested that customers of other banks, who may have incurred extra costs because payments from RBS did not come through, would eventually be reimbursed by RBS as well: "We are working together with their banks, between us we will sort this issue out."

However there is no policy yet on whether or not anyone will be offered extra payments as compensation for inconvenience rather than quantifiable financial loss.

It all seems a little odd to me.

I bank with Natwest and got my salary in on time (actually came in a day early) and havent had any problems transferrring money on line or DD going out.

Is it just hit and miss with some people being affected and not others?

After the back charges fiasco, it might seem there is a readily available reference in your terms and conditions. This should set out the costs levied by the bank when dealing your errors or failures to pay.

It would be hard and perverse for them to turn down claims - based on the fees they set out themselves.

Because you are not in business perhaps an element of additional compensation is also due and reasonable.

Fill your boots I say. They would not hesitate..
