Hadn't seen it here, died yesterday aged 91.
Fahrenheit 451 is a classic.
now he's dead they can put his books out on kindle etc
RIP indeed,
Faranheit 451 is one of my favourite books, seems more accurate evertime I read it.
Give the people contests they win by remembering the words to more popular songs or the names of state capitals or how much corn Iowa grew last year. Cram them full of non-combustible data, chock them so damned full of 'facts' they feel stuffed, but absolutely 'brilliant' with information. Then they'll feel they're thinking, they'll get a sense of motion without moving. And they'll be happy, because facts of that sort don't change. Don't give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy
A genius and under appreciated.
as it says on the first page "if they give you lined paper, then write the other way"..........wise words indeed and my approach to life
I must admit I thought he died ages ago! So I suppose that's good then.
Heard about it last night.
Only read Fahrenheit 451 last year. Not a wasted word. Magnificent.
First read Fahrenheit as a (barely) teenage hard sic fi fan- completely went over my head, and my overriding memory for years was the dated imagery, and how unlikely it was that the story could ever come to pass. Woosh... Never re read it for years, a sorry waste.
With apologies to big'n'daft, above- once again The Onion nails it..

My favourite of his is Something Wicked This Way Comes, I love his lyrical way of writing, not unlike Roger Zelazney, possibly my all-time favourite SF author, some of who's books I've read dozens of times.
Love bradburys stories. Why is Mars not like that?
