I should probably know / be less concerned, but can Ratten / fake rotten really be left outside in the UK's worst over winter without going to rat shit?

I'd quite like something in the garden to sit & have coffee, and thinking of buying a sofa / table set but don't have winter storage.

If you mean the plastic rattan then yes, lasts way better than wooden furniture, bit of a hose down in the spring, ideally cover with something in the winter to reduce UV damage. We've a four year old set on the decking, still looks good, no staining or fading. Cushions are looking a bit sad, combination of being back cream and a Fire pit. Wife is making new covers for them. Cushion storage is the biggie, you dont want to leave them out in the rain but you need to store them close to the seating, no good in the loft or garage, you won't get them out. We store ours in boxes like these all year round, stay pretty dry.

7 year old set, normally covered during the worst of winter but it's fine. There is a bit of colour coming off in places and under the glass table top there a few breaks in the weave but there is a pattern to it, so it must be a dud roll of plastic.

Currently having this debate ourselves. We concluded that as it's basically plastic it'll last way longer than wood with almost no maintenance.
So any recommendations for a sofa and/ or chair arrangement?

I’ve had a Ratton cube set for around 5years. It gets covered for the winter and when not used in spring and summer, and still looks perfect. Covers only tend to last 2 seasons though.

We got a set from IKEA , we meant to do it last year but they were sold out. I remembered in Feb and had them delivered and piled up in spare room. Was the first thing done in lockdown and since then have been well used ! Agree on storage, we have a big plastic bin thing and a cover for the set as well and it’s easy to keep dry mostly. Very comfortable and seems to be lasting ok so far
