Just post your job and get some quotes, takes less than 5 minutes. I use it as a tradesman sometimes and have used it to sub out work on occasion. Found a great roofer a few weeks back

You might be lucky like TheFunkyMonkey, but you should know something about the nature of how the site operates and makes its money before you use it:

That indeed is the sad part of it - an unbiased review site of tradespeople would be an excellent resource for homeowners.

I used ratedpeople.com once, for a new alarm system. I got quotes from £350 to £1800 but to be fair they were for massively different systems.

I chose one and had the work done. Chaps came in to fit and took a day but they didn't understand the alarm system they offered. Every time I opened the front door when I got home the alarm went off! Eventually I found the installers manual and worked out how to do it (tag front door with 'final exit' flag).

The service was OK so I wrote an OK review. The website wouldn't accept it - it kept on saying I was using profanities. I couldn't find any words that could have been considered rude. I mentioned it to the company and they said they would 'look into it'.

The only issue I had was the company said they would do a contract for annual maintenance and they have since vanished. I can get in touch with them but it feels like I'm dragging them here to pay them money so I've worked out how to replace batteries etc. myself.

Used it a few years ago, and selected a plumber, based on his good reviews. His work was so bad it was almost comical; flooded the house, drilled holes in the wrong place in a new bath, hammered dents into a door, bought parts that didn't fit and tried to fit them anyway, etc, etc. Threatened me when I refused to pay the full amount he was asking, and accused me online of being a liar and a cheat when I gave a very understated but factual review of his work on ratedpeople.
In short, I wouldn't trust anything on ratedpeople. Avoid at all costs.

mybuilder.com

Can't vouch for it's users but I can vouch for the site; their CTO is a mate of mine.
