And you get to see Kirsten Dunst naked.
Sounds rubbish that 😯
Watched "X-Men First Class" on Tuesday - enjoyed it again (saw it in the cinema originally). Worth a watch if you're into that sort of film.
I watched a few movies yesterday (whilst I get over manflu)
17 Again - 8/10
Iron Man - 9/10
Paranormal Activity (first one) - thought I'd finally watch it to see what the hype is about. Meh 6/10
Still probably going to watch the sequel tonight though...
Killer elite, thought it would be a basic action flick but absolutely cracking, great cast with steatham, de Niro and Clive Owen. At least an 8/10
127 hours brilliant movie...."could you do it if it was you" ?
The Decent 2....also pretty good...
District 9 , again - 9/10
flight from jfk you two? i passed on capt. amaerica and chose kramer vs kramer, very very good. also saw bridesmaids and senna on the way out, both superb too.
i want to see this moneyball film is it out yet? kinda dorky subject but i think brad pitt is actually a good actor.
Marmaduke
So crap it was great being pished helped
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071585/
still haven't seen a visconti film I haven't liked.
8/10.
hoping to see the new mike leigh one soonish.
Pearl Jam 20, saw it a few weeks ago but it was on BBC4 tonight (repeated again at 1:55 if anyones interested) I gave it a solid Ten (ho ho) but probably a biased opinion
Machine Gun Preacher... Really surprisingly good, manages to avoid most of the obvious pitfalls for a film like that. Not all, though. Still, there was a very big chance it'd suck, and it didn't, so hurrah.
Just watched 'one for the road' from TGR. Good skiing shots, weak soundtrack. Bonkers lines. 7/10
Watched Source Code last night and it was really quite enjoyable despite he fact that it sort of shouldn't have been because the central plot theme is pretty outrageous
The boy in the striped pyjamas - not a lot happens but it does built very well to the inevitable ending which I thought was all done very well - subtle but shocking none the less. 8/10 but a bit depressing.
Despicable Me - good plot and the characters were lovingly crafted with a depth and sensitivity that sold the subtext in a manner which was gentle and sublime..
the cinematography let it down however.. and for this reason I am only able to give it a 7/10
Horton Hears a Who looks like it may provide a more rounded experience.. I shall report back later..
Thor - on the plane back from the US. Fun. Amusing in parts, and enjoyable tosh overall.
Another vote for "Drive" - top quality movie.
got a "10 free rentals" offer from Blockbuster as one of our nearest branches has closed down & they seem to think I'm a good customer.
Been today on mrs_drummer's instructions and we now have 4 nights to watch the following (all her choices):
Salt
Inception
Thor
Middle Men
Can't say I'm looking forward to Inception; the others should be harmless though
Ides of March - 6.75/10
The Fountain - 9/10.
Fantastic to finally see a film by Aronofsky that doesn't make you want to curl up and hide somewhere. One of my favourite films of all time I think.
Into The Wild - 5/10.
Feels a bit harsh, but my initial reaction was boring, boring, boring, dull, dull, dull. After thinking about it for a while I've kinda come to appreciate the beauty in the film, and almost watched it again. Might have if it wasn't so boring. Also enough with the mummy/daddy issues, dear god.
Oh also Contagion - 5/10.
People cough, then they die. I wasn't bored, but I wasn't entertained either. Did pretty much nothing for me.
http://www.imdb.es/title/tt0066434/
thx 1138
lucas.
8.5 for me,bit harsh over at imdb with 6.8.
good dialogues,excellent photography.deep yet funny in a bleak,dark way.pessimistic,hopeful.just great.
reminded me of truffaut's farenheit 451.
nice commentary in the extras too.
popped over to watch Immortals over the weekend. 9.5 / 10 - only thing stopping it being a 10 is not enought atehna 😉
Swimming Pool - It was alright.
Submarine - had higher hopes than it warranted, 5/10. Amusing in places, but hardly hillarious as is suggests from the reviews on the cover. But maybe I just didn't 'get' it.
Hurt Locker - Not quite Black Hawk Down, but good none-the-less. 7/10
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078268/
seven days in january,bardem.1977.
Weak, makes an interesting story quite boring.
conventional.bit rhetoric.6.5 at the most.
had expected better from the director of the best spanish film I've ever seen.death of a cyclist.1955.8/10.
so,shame.try to give spanish films a chance, living here and all.but they just don't compare to the big players, france,us,italy, japan, russia,uk,germany.
buñuel excepted, but he worked in mexico mostly.
here's the link, excellent, if anyone ever has the chance:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048394/
naughty housewives 7 ..not as good as 4 but storyline has a bit more to it ...i give it 8 breasts out of a possible 10 🙄
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark 2/10
Utterly, utterly predicable. I should have realised when it said 'presented by Guillermo del Toro'. I would go in to a Kermodian rant about how poor it was, but don't the energy.
The Social Network 2/10
crap really...
Bad Teacher 6/10 quite enjoyable. it started well, but it faded...
The Scorpion King.
2.5/10
Jack Goes Boating
Hoffman and Amy Ryan are excellent.
8/10
Potiche
Superb Frenchness
8/10
Inception was ok. beautifully shot but waaaayyy too long
transformers- rubbish style over content american rubbish
hurt locker- eh? what was that all about. boom!
twenty-pearl jam- very good
signs- excellent but cant watch it late at night
ice age 3- meh
Sex Drive was on the telly last night, I laughed like a drain. American high school/college comedy. Not quite Road Trip or Superbad, but good fun. 8/10
source code, bloody excellent
Francois Ozon? I'd agree with your assessmentSwimming Pool - It was alright.
last thing I saw - Pirates of the Carribean 4, dull. Please don't bother with a fifth
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118971/
devil's advocate.
bit tacky.some good monologues.but there's something missing in the storytelling.
5.5
The Killer Inside Me. nasty. never before have I watched half a film & switched off feeling unclean
The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, by contrast, was excellent
jeux interdits/forbidden games.1952,clement.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043686/
brilliant,touching and tragic.9.5
Four Lions: four lions out of five. Pushed some boundaries, thought-provoking, but felt like it pulled some punches.
Paul: it's not Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, so one can only conclude that Edgar Wright is the funny one out of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
I didn't like Four Lions as it was too contrived to take me in.
Watched Dog Day Afternoon at the weekend, which I havent seen since the 70's. Good film 7.5/10. The young lad Pacino is brilliant, he'll go far.
I am finding that re-visiting old movies can often be disappointing.
Just watched the new Thing last night, I'd say around 7/10 though the whole spaceship scene was unnecessary.
Watched the version of straw dogs last night, a totally unexpected 9/10 great film
Hugo 7/10 but 3D is still rubbish.
Watched the version of straw dogs
Crucial word missed!
"The next 3 days" with Russell Crowe. Was awesome 9/10
"The way back" is harrowing and brilliant 8/10
The Dilemma, with Vince Vaughan - pants 3/10
Thor (2011)
pure garbage, 1/10
Anchorman, The Legend of Ron Jeremy
Massively over-rated, 6/10
How to train a Dragon
9/10
Watched it with the kids - ace too !
Station Agent
Well acted 6/10
Ooops my bad crucial word would be "new"
Master & Commander! 9/10.
Seen it loads, easy watching.
the station agent was good.
watched some bmx films today.
up up and away-sunday.nice music, some stuff filmed here in bcn so I can have a look at the spots and mince around.nice music.7.sick riding.
synopsys-micreation.bit mellow/empty.didn't actually notice any music.5.good riding.
oss football.nice vibe, great music, just positive.7.5.I think that was filmed here in bcn too.but then again, they do all resemble each other a bit.
bmx films have better music than mtb films,to my ears.
plus it's nice to see the lads happy at getting something right,or throwing hissy fits when they don't.you don't really get any of that with full facers.but then again, riding with just a beanie seems mental to me.
fantastic mr fox
8/10
very good animation
precious.damn fine.and pretty harsh.excellent acting,9/10,at least.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0929632/
paula patton is gorgeous, and looks exactly like a girl I used to know...
Dead Snow. 4/10. I knew it would be shite but I didn't realise it would be that bad. But it gets points for the Ein Zwei Die tagline, hanging off the cliff via zombie intestines, and the people getting ripped in half.
TT-closer to edge....If you like motorbikes (and Guy Martin) 10/10.
Senna...If you like racing cars (and Senna) 10/10.
Ride the Divide...If you like bikes (and riding across america) 10/10.
I seem to be on a bit of a roll!!
Just finished watching The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe loved it so 9/10
The Girl Who Played with Fire
Rather overrated. Why didn't the giant freak kill the pair of them at the end?
Goonies
9/10
Sherlock Holmes 2
8/10
Cheesey & homoerotic in the best possible way.
Just watched The Inbetweeners Movie
Made me laugh 8/10
For some reason I just watched Captain America.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0458339/
An absolute fantastic display of a hollywood cliche. Super dull, must've taken real skill to put Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones in a film and still have me wondering how much more I'd have to endure.
3/10.
Went to watch the improbably named Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol today.
It's MI done by JJ Abrams, which should tell you all you need to know. It's bloody tremendous, go see it.
Something high out of ten or five or some such, I don't do ratings.
I just finished Batman Begins, which I somehow missed when it came out. Pretty good... Something I'm always banging on about is that the best CGI in the world always looks crap after a year or two, but modelwork doesn't date. And here's a nice modern film without too much CGI, to prove me right.
Good plot, good performances... A little bit of absolute ridiculousness but then, it's a comic.
Mesrine Part I & II. Superb films, highly recommended
I have just endured Mr Poppers Penguins, it was the 'family'(wife's) Christmas movie of choice this year, in the spirit of the evening I shall give it a 5, would I watch it again? Nope.
Still this was the wind down to the afternoons entertainment of the Christmas panto at MK, less said about that the better 😉
Happy Xmas one & all.
8/10, although the vodka i was drinking may have affected me.
watched tt closer to the edge yesterday, 10/10
watched senna a few weeks ago, 10/10
struggling to think what was the last one before those tbh.
In the last week have watched:
Four Lions - odd, dark, tragic but funny.
Due Date - run-of-the-mill comedy gumf in the line of The Hangover but without the OTT shock factor. Forgettable, switch-your-brain-off comedy, good for a laugh.
The Adjustment Bureau - Inception lite. Interesting concept though, worth a watch.
Buried - excellent film, massive step up by Ryan Reynolds. Can't say too much about why it was so good without giving away plot spoilers, but an excellent film.
Black Swan - Got this as the sixth in a 6 for $16 deal at the local DVD shop as a token chick flick for the wife, having got the four films above and one other I can't even remember, such was its impact on me. Anyway, WOW! Totally blown away by this, it's a seriously powerful film. Best I've seen in ages, really really dark but enthralling. Never would have thought I'd like it but this is the first film in years that has emotionally moved me. Highly recommended.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0396171/
perfume,tykwer.
can't decide what was worse, the acting or the script.
4/10.
should have remembered lola runs,by tykwer, another film made by stretching a simple idea much too far.
the book was allright.but this was shite.
this always cheers me up.
full movie over at unofficial networks, and free.
I think the parallels with mtb-ing are pretty evident.
Watched Monsters V Aliens earlier; thoroughly enjoyed it. 🙂
Now watching Ratatouille. Brilliant.
Pixar rock. 8)
Pixar rock.
They do, but that's a statement unrelated to the others. ITYM Dreamworks.
Are you 100% sure about that Cougar?
