We're just on the ferry back from Arran and whilst we were on the island noticed that the Rat race tour of Arran Ultra marathon was on.

Course looks pretty good but at £200 feels expensive, but pretty tempted for next year. Has anyone done a RR event and is the on course support and set up worth the premium?

Thanks

My limited experience of it is a load of helmet on backwards types nearly crashing into my van whilst riding in a clueless fashion on a single track road.
I guess if you're paying £200 (WTF?) then the assumption is that the roads have been closed for you to bimble along. Maybe the potholes filled in too.

It's a 100km ultra marathon, not cycling event - so no closed roads.

'The Wall' event comes past our house. The first few are properly impressive and fast but after that they all look truly miserable and looking forward to telling everyone else in the office on Monday how awesome it was.

yeah that's pretty much it! I worked in a couple - really good employer, freebies etc but I don't fancy taking part thanks.

I worked on them too and can see where your entry fee goes. There is a long list from access negotiations, public liability, planning, safety cover, medics, council regs hoop jumping, equipment hire and so on.

Something I do like With RR is its all thought through and they do have a charitable element with projects trying to improve people's lives.

None of your entry fee goes into flash cars, mega yachts or the like.. In fact, the director is the hardest grafter on the team, all of which pull crazy hours to deliver, IMHO, events wich are properly challenging and well backed up where appropriate...

If your looking for spendy events, cape epic, Swiss epic are good for starters but pay the fee, get a professionally well prepared, delivered and supported event.
