Slow afternoon so I thought I'd blow the dust off my Pi. Just set up Kodi (OSMC) to have a play with it.

Seems there are many, many plugins for it, some of which do similar things. Save me trial-and-erroring all night, what do people recommend?

Am I being dim - I thought this thing was a DLNA header? Or is that a plug-in too?

Phoenix is great

Renegades TV isn't working at the mo but is the best one out there.

In the absence of Renegades PsychoTV with iVueTV guide

Installing OpenElec/Kodi

Installing Phoenix

Phoenix is an add on for movie and live TV streams.

I don't because believe as it stands at the moment there is an EU law loophole about streaming web based product rather than downloading files or something... not completely clued up on it.

So what content do you get with these plugins being recommended? Was using mine for iPlayer, but have now bought a BT Youview box, so hasn't been used since (and the Youview box is a lot better to use).

I use the paraodx build (succeedor to the black box) on a pi 3 and pi 2. Both work fine, the pi3 is a bit quicker through the menus though

Thanks all, will try some of these. I haven't got the software version working on my mac yet. @bamboo I have done a lot of phaffing so far and still not running, I am not an expert but not hopeless either.

@cougar ime kodi software has no plugins - everything has to be added inc http addresses

Jamba talking pish as usual, shocker.

Kodi has plenty of plugins in the official repository which are all plug and play however the plugins you allude to are neither official nor legal despite what people say. You should also be cautious when downloading via unofficial repositories as there have been a number of rouge apps put out, there is a lengthy blog post on this on the official Kodi page.

Cougar - Kodi is a media centre, I believe you would be looking for the likes of Plex for a header.

I already have a media header (three in fact, Blu-ray player, Xbox and Chromecast), so it doesn't really matter. It was more that I thought it did that also.

I've got Serviio running on a Windows 10 "server," which works well. I've dabbled with Plex but the way it organises / presents shows seemed a bit insane. I've read that it expects a certain format of filename to organise properly - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows - which is doable but a bit of an arseache.

@squirrel just read what I posted. Everything has to be added (whether from an official source or not) including http addresses. It's 100% not plug and play like for example a Chromecast or Apple TV

You can call me inept but I've spent 3-4 hours trying to set it up with no luck and I am very familiar with ATV and VPN use as well as various streaming services and p2p

This is what I was trying yesterday - with no luck (for Eng Aus Rugby and Wales Slovakia footy)

Jamba - you want Addon Installer I think.

https://offshoregit.com/xbmchub/xbmc-hub-repo/raw/master/plugin.program.addoninstaller/

Just about to slap that on myself.

Couldn't for the life of me get it to install from a downloaded .zip, but worked first time over the air. Instructions here:

https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-manually-install-the-addon-installer-for-xbmc/

Once the Addon Installer in on, you can use it to install whatever you like.

Jamba - try reading what I wrote instead. Nothing you are talking about us a Kodi addon. Kodi addons (as in official addons from the official repository) are all plug and play with no extra setup necessary (barring signin details where needed). You are confusing third party addons with official.

@squirrell keep the political stuff elsewhere, your post was neither necessary or warranted.

@Cougar I had already installed the fusion from zip, will try to do it again. I have tv channel lists but no content

Political? You're talking nonsense as I substantiated in the post right above that one, you really have no shame do you?

You have no manners, just looking to throw insults around when it suits you. You can't substantiate an insult, ot is what it is. A gratuitous insult.

Got mine working, issue was I was using a stream which does work. Worth noting not everything you install may actually work at all. So far streaming (on a 200mps connection) is reasonable, bit stop start and slightly inferior to iPlayer streaming imo. With a bit of research there is a lot of content available,
