Mrs ws just showed me a 50 pence piece and said ooo I haven't seen one of these before. Jemima puddleduck on the front. Fetching a tenner on eBay. Apparently "only" 2 million originally circulated. Can't believe people would pay that!
People will pay whatever they feel something is worth to them, for whatever reason. It might be that someone collects anything to do with certain literary characters for example, and while 2 million might have been minted, it's likely that relativity few are actually still in circulation, possibly because the rest have been lost, are in collections, have been withdrawn through damage, etc.
I suppose the thinking is that the complete set will be valuable over time.
Are they actually "fetching" a tenner on eBay, or are people trying to sell them for a tenner? Subtle but large difference.
The loads of 50p "collector's editions. And because of that people collect them, so most will be in people's draws or cupboards. There's a Beatrix Potter set including Jemima who is the rarest. Still only worth £5-10 condition dependant.
I suppose the thinking is that the complete set will be valuable over time.
Not "really" valuable because so many people collect the set's. Valuable is real raritys, withdrawn coins due to mistakes ect. Or things that weren't ment to be collected so are consumed but then attract interest for some reason.
No they are fetching a tenner. First point of call for a quick valuation, watched a couple finish at around that Mark. We also have one of the undated 20pence pieces but with that one I can understand it's value as its so rare.
Some might go for £10 depending on condition but there's 901 on eBay at the moment. This one didn't attract any bids at £5 with £1 postage.

Edit: appears to have sold for the £5 at the death.
Are those 20p's actually worth anything? I have a few.
I have a Kew gardens 50p. They are going for £60-80 in eBay auctions. Can't bloody find it
The 20ps regularly fetch 50 quid.
We had a £2 coin which was just gold.
Followed one on ebay and it went for £1.98.
i got a Kew 50p in my change the other week, well chuffed. Just need the swimmer with the waves on their face and I'll be over the moon.
i bought the mother in law an AK47 £5 on e-bay to prove a point.
I paid £5.12 with free P&P now by my reckoning the seller got £4.62 minus whatever the first class stamp it came with was....
The boy and I have been collecting the 50p's with the royal mint albums. We only need the Kew and the newton ones. It's killing me!
Has anyone seen how much the empty RM olympics albums go for? They were only a fiver to buy new?
I have a sealed can, looks like a big tin can that you can only get into if you use a tin opener (as I was sick of the misses raiding the jar 😀 ) for all the coins that I don't recognise as being common or I have not seen before, lots of 50p's as I find them most interesting & I know i have at least one of the ducks which is proper mint, lots of £2 coins as well, I figgur that by the time its actually full they may be worth something, maybe not but I won't of lost anything!
Oh & I used to have a few 50p Kew coins, but they went AWOL ❓ 🙁
