Hi all,

Anybody know if the footpath between Rannoch and Coe is bikeable? Riders will be pretty competent, just wanting to know whether it'll be miserable or not.

Cheers
Paul

I've run from Kingshouse to Rannoch Station before.

Waist deep bog in places

That was on the double-track that's shown on the OS maps past Black Corries Lodge. It's a nice path from Rannoch, through the forest alongside Loch Laidon, but then it just stops.

I've walked it last year and biked it a few years ago. There is about a 2.5 mile gap in the middle where the path is very faint. It more or less follows a line of telegraph poles. Walking it after a dry spell I had dry feet the whole way. With my hardtail I probably pushed most of the 3 mile gap. Better riders could ride more.

It gives great views of Glen Coe and there is a real feeling of remoteness in the middle section. Recommended.

I did it as part of a day circuit. Parked Victoria Bridge. Along west side of LOch Tulla and up to Gorton Bothy. A push through the bog north of Gorton to the forest tracks to Rannoch Station. Over the moor to Kings House then WHW back to the car.

Of the two pushing sections north of Gorton is far worse. Best part of a mile with no path and soft bog even in dry weather.

Edit - save it for a dry spell - no point doing it after the rain we have had in the last month.

just back from a weeks walking in the borders. I have never seen it so wet. Ground is basically water with some grass in it. Tops of hills under six inches. The last couple of months has been so wet it's not funny any more. In may it scorchio for days on end to the point you couldnt remember the last time it rained

As above, two or three miles of on/off again hike-a-bike.

Worth detouring down to the shore of Loch Laidon via Tigh na Cruach, pretty magical spot down by the lochside.

Worth timing it so you're approaching Kingshouse around about sunset, the rays of the sunset slanting through the peaks of Buachaille Etive Mor was a sight I won't forget.

Did this from the Kingshouse to Rannoch Station and back only recently when we had a good dry spell. Easy climbing from the start up past Black Corries Lodge on gravel estate track. The start of the moorland path is quite indistinct but becomes clearer in places (just follow the line of telegraph poles) when you lose the trail. The going is pretty soft all the way but a lot of it rideable with a bit of determination. The ground was sodden in places even after a two week dry spell so I would hate to do it again after rain. Uneventful riding TBH although the views over Rannoch moor help a little. Again... Estate track descent though the woods to the station. Heading back over the moor seems a little easier as there is less climbing to be done. Overall.... A bit Meh but at least you could say you have done it. (My highlight was the home made Cheesecake at the station)
