So I woke up on Saturday morning with a bruised elbow - like swollen and sore to the touch as in really bashed against something.

The wife doesn't have any bruises which she is owning up to, so I have absolutely no idea how I manged to do it...

ummm.

Sorry if you meant this as a humorous post, but can I suggest you get this checked out asap?

I had a friend who suffered this sort of thing and it did not end well.

Now, with chips pissed on.... I contribute not an injury but odd behaviour:

I have been known to wander the bedroom. When asked what I'm up to I stated "It's OK, I'm giving a lecture on where the baked beans are"

Usually I've with my knee bent awkwardly. One had me off the bike a couple of weeks.

I've only done that the once, was wandering around the bedroom talking to people in the nightclub and came back to reality when my GF at the time asked me what I was doing.

Mind you, I was two days into serious flu, had a huge temperature and was hallucinating slightly, so not a usual occurrence.

@footflaps do you have a headboard with a really pointy or sharp end? I keep hitting my hip on our and this could be a similar thing.

Might be some kind of overuse injury. They often flare up at night...
Joking aside, my plantar comes on at night =, go to bed fine, wake up and can't walk.
Meanwhile, lots of people die tangled in bedsheets every year.

I've had random twinged neck, shoulder pains sort of thing from, I guess, sleeping in the wrong position. No bruising though. Certainly worth getting that checked out I'd have thought.

Overuse of the elbow while in bed? Hmm. 😂

Brother in law had similar, turned out he was epileptic and fitting was causing random injuries at night, so yes worth getting checked out.

On the subject of random nighttime events....

I once came back late to our student digs (many years ago) and sat on the sofa to watch TV. Paul, one of my housemates, came into the room but didn't respond to me saying hello. He then went into the kitchen, opened the fridge, pulled out the vegetable tray at the bottom, emptied his bladder into it and then closed the fridge door and went back to bed. Sleep walking. He didn't believe a word of it the next day, but the evidence was rather overwhelming...

Years later he came out as gay and he had a GF at the time of the fridge incident so I suspect it was some sort of extreme stress reaction related to the relationship / sexuality etc ...

Used to sleepwalk alot when a child. Once dreamt I was in the front garden in a thunderstorm only to wake up soaking wet.
Fell out of bed and hurt my neck when at Uni but beer might have contributed.
Boringly nothing now I'm older.

Surely a good advert for fitted sheets?

Don't die in bed, get a fitted sheet...

You are regularly banging your hip on the headboard......that's some weird nocturnal activity to get your hip up with the headboard....🤔

Randomly cricked my neck one night this summer, couldn't get my head remotely aero on the road bike and tilt my head to see where I was going, had to raise bars and sit up like a giant windsock for several weeks. 😮

Staying in a hotel in the Lake District a few years ago, I randomly fell out of bed in the middle of the night and absolutely smashed my face into a bedside table that was a good 6 inches below bed-level. It made a noise like when someone gets hit with a chair in Wrestlemania.

My fiancee thought it was hysterical 😀

🙂

Reminds me of a motel in Utah, was MTBing with a friend. Got up to go to the loo on the night and tripped over his bag falling head first into the corner of the bathroom wall, which protruded into the room with a perfect 90 degree edge. Split my forehead open (which bleeds a lot). Hence trip to ER at 3am to have it stitched back together. My only injury in three weeks of MTBing in Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.

Did the same when I was in my teens but I couldn't physically get out of bed! Lifting my head even a few mm off the pillow and I got massive spasms, start to black out and scream in agony. Was stuck there for four days until there was a crunching noise and it all went away. The doctor that visited me thought it was a trapped nerve and an x-ray afterwards showed a bit of damage to one of my vertebrae that was smoothed out via keyhole surgery.

Was on a family weekend trip to Dublin and vividly recall being chased by Dennis Law. He was wearing his MU kit and finally caught up with me when I fell. As he loomed over me I kicked him really hard in the balls. Except I didnt. I was dreaming and when I kicked out I kicked the wall beside the bed and really hurt my toe. Spent the weekend limping around Dublin.

A few weeks ago I think Dennis chased me again but this time I didnt see him clearly. Again he finally caught up and as he loomed over me I threw myself at him. Except I didnt. I was dreaming and threw myself out of bed and onto the floor. Really hurt my elbow too.

I dont know Dennis and as far as I know Ive never done anything to upset him but he needs to stop.

Woke up earlier this year with my stomach trying to exit via my scrotum. Turns out I have a hernia. My god, that was a painful way to wake up and didn't half give me a fright..

Now on the waiting list for the waiting list to get sorted apparently.

Fell asleep on a chair lift and woke up being dragged around half stuck in the chair.

Could be sepsis.
A farmer mate of mine once had a little cut from a fence, but not on his elbow. His elbow got sore & bruised & ended up VERY Ill in hospital.

I occasionally suffer from night spasms where my whole body will suddenly go fully rigid which causes me to bounce up from the mattress. If I am lying on my back I tend to just jump up a couple of inches and then land beck gently but if I am lying on my side the force and direction of travel seems to increase.

I have cut my forehead when facebutting the skirting board which is at least 2 feet from the bed.
I have bumped into MrsWCA with enough force to push her out of the bed.
I have, most embarrassingly jumped sideways out of the bed and landed on a pint glass of water next to the bed, smashing it with my arse and needing intimate attention from A&E. This was while staying in a hotel in Manchester for work, alone. I don't think the nurse fully believed my explanation while extracting the glass fragments from around my darkest hole.

doesn't work for me. I have even ended up inside the duvet cover as well as under all my pillows ( I have loads as they escape allnight long) Across the bed instead of along it etc. I get as much exercise when asleep as in a normal days activity. I've not been sleepwalking for a few years now tho

Seem to wake up most days after sleeping on both arms somehow. Dead as. Very annoying.

Yep, usually because I've rolled onto my front with my arms underneath me.  I then wake up in a panic because I know the excruciating pain that's coming.  I do some kind of beached elephant seal manoeuvre to roll/flop onto my back without the use of my floppy and unresponsive arms.  Then a short delay before the agonising pins and needles as the blood flows back into them.

I only really opened this thread to check out the (inevitable) WCA contribution. Was not disappointed.

I used to wake with a start, and sometimes kick out. Woke up. Kicked out and impacted big toe nail into a chest of drawers.

Yeah, that hurt. Kinda wakes you up instantly. Toenail went black but rather than the medieval option just let the black grow out.

Moved the chest of drawers to the other side of the room 😆

Ditto. I think it's probably related to the above waking with a start. Have to say though the whole experience of the entire body suddenly jumping is pretty tiring. Dont know if thats the best description, but the effect feels like a blow to the syatem.
