Why aren't motorbikes advertised on telly like cars?
Same reason as bicycles i'd imagine. Only about three people buy them.
Tiny market, I'd imagine. A bit like bikes not being advertised.
Edit - Great minds....
I'm surprised no one's said anything about the size of the market and, in its way, the similarity with the marketing strategy of pedal cycles.
I'd assume it's because the average TV watcher isn't the average motorbike buyer. Plus of course, the overall market is smaller, same reason you don't see bike adverts apart from on specialist lycraperv channels
I'd wager there are more 'cyclists', i.e. people who cycle for fun, than motorbikers
They tend to appear during motorcyling events and obviously targeted at, what is, a tiny market, a bit like bike advertising.
Like cyclists you don't 'have' (i know but just go along with it) to have a car in the accepted conventional societal sense. It isn't a border line necessity. You chose to have a motorbike/bike. So you will seek out publications and media where they are advertised.
Merida do advertise on the TV in ad spots on Eurosport.
Merida... More Bike.
See I even know the tag line and everything. I'm not going to buy one. But I know it. It only doesn't work on me because I'm mentally strong.
More Bike.
You're all going to by Meridas now. Because marketing.
Santa Cruz - because you're worth it.
do they run adverts during moto gp ? somewhere in the back of my mind I remember a Ducatti ad.
For the reasons above and also I think mostly, because people who buy motorbikes generally are enthusiasts and will spend time researching their choice so advertising isn't as important. Car adverts mostly exist for people who aren't car enthusiasts, they just happen to like buying new cars and can be steered by an advert.
You don't see many adverts for enthusiast cars unless it's a halo model designed to reel in buyers to the brand and other models in the range.
