If one wanted to put "n" lines of Lucky Dips on for "m" weeks where n and m are both integers greater than 1 does anyone know (because short of actually doing it I can't find the answer anywhere quickly) if those n lines are different every week or whether they are randomised afresh for each draw?

TIA 😉

I used to do this on a monthly basis, and unless they've changed it your random numbers will be generated once and will apply for m weeks.

Great thanks. And just realised the mistake in my last sentence. It's early! 😯

Resurrecting this one because a new option has appeared on the drop down for how many weeks viz: "Continuously by Direct Debit".

If buying multiple weeks in one go results in the same numbers each week anyone know if the DD route does too or whether it's a new LD each time? I may call up the Lotto customer service later but if anyone knows from first hand experience...? Cheers!

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that, whatever the answer it, it has no effect on your chances of winning. Same numbers each week or new numbers every week, they all have the same (slim) chance of winning a prize.

If you want to increase your chances (slightly), don't enter every week, save up all he money and buy all the tickets for one draw!

The problem with this approach is that it guarantees you will only ever win the lottery jackpot once.

With the buy a ticket each week approach there is the chance you may win the jackpot a few times.

Same numbers each week or new numbers every week, they all have the same (slim) chance of winning a prize.

But not necessarily the same amount of money, depending on how the prize money is set and how other people behave. If people choose the same numbers until they win a prize, then change (on the mistaken belief that the same numbers are less likely to be drawn again), then you are better off to choose the numbers that won last week because you will probably be sharing the prize money with fewer other people. However, if people think that the last set of winning numbers are somehow lucky and choose them, then you are better to choose a different set.

Either you need to reword this, or you're kidding yourself so you don't feel like you're chucking your quids down the drain! 😆

I know someone - a regular 'customer' - who buys multiple lines (e.g. ten) of the same six numbers every time. This is so that if his numbers come up but he's not the only winner he will still take the lion's share of the jackpot. No flies on this fella that's for sure.

Certainly in the early days of the lottery people were more likely to play numbers they'd chosen rather than lucky dips - often the birthday of family members etc. It meant most people were only playing with part of the number set available as they weren't choosing numbers greater than 31. So lucky dips were genuinely luckier.

It was also revealled that, many people - as in thousands - were playing 1,2,3,4,5,6 every week. Statistically thats as likely a winning line as any other but if it ever came up you'd be splitting the prize with thousands of other winners.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that, whatever the answer it, it has no effect on your chances of winning. Same numbers each week or new numbers every week, they all have the same (slim) chance of winning a prize.

People tend to like the randomness and disposable-ness of lucky dips as theres an anxiety of not playing one week and having 'your' numbers come up, so although it doesn't meaningfully effect the odds I think people would be happier if their numbers changed every week

Love it, nine replies while I was out and none of them answering my Q, reaffirms my ongoing love for STW after all these years 😆 😉

Just to put everyone's mind at ease that I'm not deluded (about this anyway)... I too am aware that I am unlikely to ever win however I am running a syndicate for work (for the time being, I may lose interest!) and am just trying to make things easier for myself. And yes, if we stuck to the same numbers and then those numbers came up (again, highly unlikely) we would kick ourselves (assuming we were continuing to check them).

In short, it's a bit of fun (with the feintest remote chance of coming off) and I am just trying to make it as easy for myself as possible.

😉

I don't buy lucky dips, what are the chances of the same number coming out randomly twice in a week eh? Eh?!

I pick numbers that would look 'right' when shown on the screen after the news.

It's not paying off as well as you'd think though...
