What is this from? It was my late fathers and presumably, as he was the biggest steam railway enthusiast, its steam railway related.
He spent most of his life rummaging around the sheds to see what was being worked on or scrapped so geographically it could be from anywhere. I suspect though, that it may be from the Great Central.
Amaze me STW 🙂

As always, bravo everyone. Now I just have to find a place to mount it.
Number plate?
Number plate?

Wont get issued a speeding ticket.
Doubles up as a battering ram.

It weighs a tonne so getting the sufficient speed in my little Panda to get a speeding ticket would be impossible. (Could equally be a plus point)
As above, would struggle to get up to ramming speed.
Looks like the numbers on the cab side are painted so that must be the one from the smokebox door. Great bit of history!

Yes, if you zoom in on the photo of the loco, you can see the actual plate mounted just above the two ‘handles’ that look like clock hands in the centre of the front smokebox door.
Be nice to try to find a decent high-res copy of that photo and print it off, then mount it with the actual number plate, then you have it’s proper context.
Nice thing to have, it might be worth carefully stripping all the old paint off and repainting it, it looks like it’s been over painted, the original paint buried underneath.
Actually, stet that, it’s got plenty of character, mount it on a nice piece of wood, big enough to mount a print of that photo underneath, make a nice display piece.
Not a bad idea to mount it with a pic of the Loco.
