It's interesting that many of the people objecting to the rail strikes are using the excuse "they already earn enough". Does this mean that the main complaint against rail workers when it comes to striking is actually just jealousy, as opposed to frustration over disruption?
My feelings tend to be that if you're unhappy about how much a train driver earns then there's nothing stopping you applying for the job yourself.
Over 4000 applicants for 116 jobs suggests plenty people do apply for very well paid train driver jobs.
As long as the rail service is hugely subsidised by taxpayers, many of whom don't use it, I think they are quite entitled to an opinion on it.

Doesn't mean that any of the 4000 are suitable though.
Over a 100000 apply to be on BGT and look at the dross that is seen on TV
Recent bus strike in Japan.
Drivers and staff worked as normal, but refused to take fares from passengers.
The public doesn't suffer, only the owners.
Doesn’t mean that any of the 4000 are suitable though.
Yes. All train drivers are uniquely talented. Give them £150k each. No way would 1 in every 40 applicants be up to the job.
Do the folk who complain about signallers and drivers wage also complain about teachers, bankers, IT consultants, nurses (anyone but their) wage?
The drivers on the busy main lines have a lot going on.
I don't object to the strikes. My main musing on the subject is why bus drivers get paid so much less, given the job is arguably more difficult and they're very much at the pointy end of a customer facing role.

Yeah, generally.
given the job is arguably more difficult
It isn’t.
