Can't believe that before her run at Wimbledon, we'd never really heard of her, no great fanfare or predictions, but then a good run there and she's on the radar, and after finishing her A Levels she's now in the biggest final of her profession, and up against a 19 year old who is also unranked for this tournament, it's always weird how the women's tournaments seem to throw up these runs, but the men seem to always be one of the big three.
Fantastic achievement! She has shown some real dedication and must have made real sacrifices to get where she has. Not a tennis fan but can spot exceptional talent and she has enormous potential. Good luck for hopefully a stellar future.
She reminds me of Andy Murray when he first came on the scene (as an 18 yr old?) at Wimbledon c 2005. Has the shots, the mobility and perhaps most importantly, the on court drive and determination to beat the best. And the self belief to break the top 10 and maybe even top 5.
An incredible achievement from her for sure. But this has been a bit of an odd US Open. Regardless of what happens in the final, hopefully she’ll reach the pinnacle. A very articulate girl too, full of humility. Good on her.
It's the way she has done it as well. Coping with every jump in the class of opponent and making world class players look ordinary. Into the final without a dropped set or tiebreaker.
Incredible achievement regardless of what happens in the final.
Should be a seed for the Australian Open.
She's looking so much more confident and mature, on and off the court. Fantastic achievement.
Not all the big names were at the tournament but she's taken some proper scalps on the way.
Headlines after the final in the Mail/Express, either:

Well done to Emma Raducanu.
Good income and hopefully more to come.
Definitely good for her! Love that she had responded on the court to all the idiots that so instantly and harshly jumped to criticize her when she lost at Wimbledon.
Reminds me of Boris Becker bursting on to the scene at Wimbledon.
Into the final without a dropped set or tiebreaker.
That's the most impressive part. She hasn't scraped her way into the final, she's been in full control all the way. Whatever happens now, she's right up there.

She certainly is. She has the talent, sporting style, intelligence, eloquence and (arguably depressingly important) aesthetics to be a mega star. But I suspect never in her career again will a path to an open final have such a low ranked series of opposition. Even a top 4 seeded player would be super pleased at that set of opposition.
Reminds me of Boris Becker bursting on to the scene at Wimbledon.
Becker was unseeded but in the top 20, seeds only went to 16 then and had won Queens. This is on another level. All her opponents are making lots of unforced errors (a subjective measure) and I wonder whether she is rushing them by returning a split second earlier than most other players - she is completely dominating her opponents so far.
She's been great throughout. Lots more to come as well.
I predict a Brit will win the men's doubles too.
Just watching it now on Prime; according to the co commentator, her professional record this season before the semi is 8-3. Her lifetime professional record is 8-3.
Maybe she got lucky with the draw, but has beaten the in form Olympic champion, and the player who beat the No 1 player/seed.
Still early, but could well be the real deal.....
Hugely impressive and, based on post match interviews, appears to be very grounded.
As for comments about the quality of opposition, she can only play/beat what's in front of her.
She's done that wonderfully well.
She bossed the semi. Sakkari never looked like she was at all comfortable with the match. Raducanu kept forcing errors from her. I enjoyed it.
Will Morgan the arsehole suddenly become a fan now?
BBC news report abour her there. Described as 'a grammar school girl'. This obsession with background and class is boak inducing, give it a bloody rest.
Best of luck to her, she's been phenomenal.
The final is live on C4 tonight!
Blimey, how long can they keep up this level of tennis?
It sounds like every serve clips the net, what’s causing that? Evidently they’re not actually clipping it because they’re not calling a let.
It'll boil down to who cracks first judging by the first few games. Both of them are playing equally as well as each other, going to be a good one.

Thought it was just me hearing that - echo from the serve maybe

Noticed that as well. Watching on my Sonos system in case that's a factor? I'm guessing it's an echo in the arena
Kermit the frog on commentary?
Neither fazed by the occasion and playing their natural games.

First Set!!!
Woo Hoo!!!
That’ll do
But how closely matched are they?!
First set!
First set done, bloody hard work but well deserved.
If this is an indication of the future of the quality of women's tennis it's going to be very good!
Loving this, couldn’t even tell you whose in the men’s final, much better tennis this
First set to Raducanu.
Absolutely 50/50 in terms of standard of tennis.
Their pace around the court is insane.
That was quite some first set. Both going toe-to-toe and not giving an inch.
Some astonishing groundstrokes from both players. 1st serve % on the low side but that could be a tension thing. But for 2 young women in their first slam final so early in their careers, this really is an incredible spectacle.
I'm also thinking that nabbing that first set in the manner in which she had to fight for it will give her an extra injection of confidence. So often in this tournament she's blitzed her way to set after set. Here, Fernandez isn't backing down, making Emma fight that bit harder than she's had to.
Loving this, couldn’t even tell you whose in the men’s final
Same here. And I don't care either
Thought Fernandez was about to crack there but what a fightback. Incredible tennis.
Get in.
Go, Emma, Go!
Two service holds...
Amazing. This is super intense
Wow. She's gone to another level these last 3-4 games and is now 1 game away.
She doesn't look like she's the kind of competitor that's going to lose in this kind of situation.
Loving this.
Superb
She doesn’t look like she’s the kind of competitor that’s going to lose in this kind of situation.
Which one?!
Wow. She's done it.
That was easily one of the best women's finals I've seen in nearly 40 years.
Yes!!!!!!!!!!
...and with an ace 😎
Championship point!!!
Un**** believable.

Oh Wow.
Fantastic! Qualifier to champion without dropping a single set and also having to work for it.
Get in!!
that was some game,
That did not feel like 6-4 6-3 match. Blood, sweat and tears.
That did not feel like 6-4 6-3 match.
The score line doesn't portray the quality of the match at all, could have gone either way at any point.
Big shout out to Fernandez. An unbelievable competitor and she more than played her part. Emma was just that little bit better.
Unbelievable, from nowhere to US Open champion, and setting a few records on the way!
That's some stage they're building.

We just had the same conversation, feel for Fernandez.
Wowee!
And not a single off putting gamesmanship scream to be heard.
Great match.
Dunno if true, but read that she hadn’t even faced a set point. Unbelievable stuff. What a pair of players they are! Props to Fernandez - she came through some epic games to reach the final. Raducanu though, Jeez!!
Amazing quality of tennis. So many winners rather than unforced errors.
Not that the cash is the point but six weeks ago doing a levels today 2:5 mil in the bank.
I don't do tennis but that was some skill on display.
Not dropped a set
History making.
Being given a cheque for $2.5m was hilarious
That was a joy
I suspect she won't be doing qualifying weeks any more.
You got the impression in the press conference these 2 might be meeting in a lot of finals….
Awesome! 🙂
I've just been in to tell my 17yo that she's got a year to get her finger out, or we'll be having serious words 😉 .
Not a big tennis fan, but I enjoyed that. Pretty tense.
Will be wonderful and awful to see the right wing press contort their logic to celebrate the UK's mixed race immigrant winning the US Open...
Who was the commentator on Amazon? Asian, think her name was Annie ? Thought she was v good
Great game. Lost a bit of respect for Fernandez when she started kicking off about the medical time out though. It did lose her the momentum she was building but it was out of everyone’s hands and certainly wasn’t some sort of underhand tactic. She was only delaying the inevitable anyway by that stage. Great tennis all round though.

FFS Enjoy the moment without bringing politics into it.

I thought it was just emotion getting the better of her - she probably knew she’d lost it by that point. She seems a really decent lass as well.
Will Morgan the arsehole suddenly become a fan now?
Yes, because she took his advice after he slagged her off over her breathing issue at Wimbledon.
Odious little shit that he is.

While Morgan may have had a point about needing to learn to handle pressure better, as usual he couldn't do it in a way that didn't make him look an utter ****.

She had saved several match points, and was at break point to make it 5-4. She had dug her way out of some pretty big holes in her route to the final, and could have argued she had momentum at this point. Plus, she's still basically a kid and this was her first final. So yeah - I don't think she really had grounds for complaint but can totally understand why she was upset/stressed about it.
I'm sure she'll bounce back- looks like a really good player.

While we were focusing on the GB success story I expect there was a similar thing playing out in Canada. It would've been a fairytale win for either of them, and both had their chances at key points. Shame about the ouchy knee but I don't think that should detract from a great match.
I don’t think she really had grounds for complaint
I do. Not at Radacanu, but just at the way the chips fell at that moment. She was up on momentum, could have won the game and set subsequently, and then it's a one set match. So yes you can bemoan your luck and in the same way as Radacanu took advantage of the stoppage, at that level you have to try to shift that back however you can.
They're both lovely, well adjusted girls by the looks of it but you don't get to that level without being ruthless, even at 18.

I do wonder if, with hindsight, Fernández wishes she'd used that injury time out to focus on what had started working for her against a now injured (ok, was a scratch) opponent, rather than allowing her focus to be lost arguing with the ref.
The good news is that they are both young, will learn lessons from all aspects of this, and will hopefully keep us enthralled for a few years to come.
