Surely there can only be one winner of this? Even though I am personally a much bigger fan of other albums on the list, as the winner of the Ultimate 80s album, surely there can be only one album in the reckoning?
Not sure what you picked, but Kate Bush - Hounds of Love is No.1 for me. And perhaps my No.1 Album of all time.
Some cracking albums on that list though.

Looks to me like there's about 50 in the reckoning. Most of which would win the "Most found in the box of battered records in a charity shop" award.
I'd pick Stone Roses as the best album in the list, or maybe Frankie as they typified the 80s for me.

I am 100% with ro5ey - it has to be Thriller. Irrespective of personal opinions (I am a rock/metal fan so BIB is my *favourite* album on the list), but as an Ultimate 80s album, nothing comes close to Jacko's contribution.

There are some great albums in there. Graceland is my favourite album of all time, but I wouldn't class it as my ultimate 80s album. i feel that needs to encapsulate something which is so 'of the time'.
So many great albums there but the one that stands out for me is Joshua Tree.
The memories associated with this being played during my teenage years mean that it is probably my all time favourite album.

Some great songs on a number of those albums, but picking one album as the ultimate 80s is not an easy choice for me.
It probably doesn't help that I don't recall ever listening to the whole of Thriller album.
Brothers In Arms got played a lot in our household back then iirc, as did Tango In The Night and No Jacket Required.
Thriller has amazing production and will show off good hi-fi/speakers/headphones.
For me it has to SFtBC by TFF. Great production again but more up my street with melancholy and powerful synths and percussion. Roland has a great voice IMO.
Some really great albums listed there. Hard to pick a winner and as has been said before the title of the contest "ultimate 80s album" does suggest it doesn't necessarily need to be the best album musically just the one that represents the decade the best.
But, are there any that you think dont deserve to be there? and why?
for me, Janet Jackson, and Wham. Although you could argue that Wham is soooo 80`s it should be included.
Difficult choice, especially as music tastes change over time, surprised not to see any New Order on the short list though. Really liked The Joshua Tree when it was released, but Bono has gone so far up his own backside I couldn’t consider it. INXS and Kick was my choice.

Some stuff in that list I wouldn't have thought were 80s. A decade is quite a long time for music, a lot changes. Looking back we probably all pick quite a short subset of the time as what represents the decade to us. If I had to pick from that list what represents the best of what I like from the 80s then it would be soft cell non stop erotic cabaret. My fave bit being the end of the 70s early 80s for the post punk and early industrial stuff.
Agree Stone Roses has no business being on there. From a not my choice but the arse played off it in the car by my folks to the point I can remember most of the listing / words it'd be Graceland. The ones I played most out of that would be Pet Shop Boys or De La Soul

Anyway my vote goes to Actually by The Pet Shop Boys. Its their best album, of its time, not a duff track and is essentially a Pet Shop Boys Greatest Hits. An album I still play regularly today.

I'd struggle to pick my fav from that list, so many great ones. Anyway, I listened to Diamond Life earlier so I voted for that.
Surprised that I own(ed) 19 of the shortlist, and would certainly have rated at least one track on all the others.
A lot of your choice of favourite is based around the memories though. The Joshua Tree for the wonderful young lady who bought me it. Appetite for Destruction for the couple of years after we broke up. 🙄

I have 33, was 34 but I draw the line at Simply Dreadful and have long since ejected the red haired one.

I think lots of you are mistaking your favourite album from the decade from the Ultimate Album from the decade. Whilst I agree with many suggestions for amazing albums, not many of them really deserve to be Ultimate Album.

Love Over Gold is, quite frankly, far superior to Brothers In Arms, but has always been somewhat overshadowed by the fact that BiA was the first album released on CD, and sold in huge quantities.
